Animated comedy “Despicable Me 4” has ascended to the top of the North American box office during its opening weekend, as per figures from industry tracker Exhibitor Relations published on Sunday.

The fourth major installment in the Minions franchise, featuring Will Ferrell as the voice of a new villain, amassed $75 million in ticket sales across the United States and Canada since its release on Friday by Universal Pictures.

“This is an outstanding opening for the 4th episode of an animation series, ranking only behind Toy Story 4,” remarked box office analyst David A. Gross.

Coming in second with $30 million was “Inside Out 2,” a Disney and Pixar coming-of-age film. The movie was bumped from the top position after three consecutive weekends leading the box office.

Apocalyptic horror film “A Quiet Place: Day One” landed in third place, earning $21 million. The movie follows New Yorkers who must stay silent to escape extraterrestrial creatures with incredibly acute hearing.

Fourth place went to the slasher film “MaXXXine,” with $6.7 million in ticket sales. The film revolves around a mysterious killer who stalks an aspiring actress in Hollywood.

Will Smith’s action-comedy “Bad Boys: Ride or Die,” co-starring Martin Lawrence, secured the fifth place with $6.5 million in earnings.

Rounding out the top ten were:

“Horizon: An American Saga — Chapter One” ($5.5 million)

“Sound of Hope: The Story of Possum Trot” ($3.2 million)

“Kalki 2898 AD” ($1.9 million)

“The Bikeriders” ($1.3 million)

“Kinds of Kindness” ($860,000)
