Did Emily Name Her Baby After Valery on ’90 Day Fiance’?

90 Day Fiance fans have been curious about whether Emily Bieberly would relent to Kobe Blaise’s wish to name their third child after his close friend, Valery. This topic became a heated discussion during the 90 Day Fiance: Happily Ever After? tell-all. Valery, despite being one of Kobe’s best friends from his hometown, has been quite vocal about his disapproval of Emily. The question remains: did Emily give in? Keep reading to find out.

Kobe’s best friend Valery does not support Emily or her marriage to Kobe. Valery’s disdain has been quite evident to both the couple and the audience. He’s even tried to create friction between them, at one point telling Emily that Kobe had another girlfriend back in Cameroon when they first met. This revelation stirred up problems for the couple, leading fans to believe Valery’s sole intention was to incite drama. During the tell-all, Valery made another controversial statement. When asked if he was as close to Kobe as before, Valery replied negatively, blaming Kobe’s marriage to a white woman. This statement only added fuel to his already unpopularity among fans.

Kobe had expressed a strong desire to name their third child after Valery. However, Emily was firmly against it. She said, “I have to write the name down, and sign the birth certificate. You push that baby out, or pull that baby out, you get to name that baby.” Despite her initial resistance, the couple eventually named their child “Atem.” Interestingly, Atem is a family name from Valery’s lineage, but it also holds other meanings.

Kobe explained, “It has a lot of meaning, the name Atem. I didn’t even know until when I’m like, OK, we’re gonna name our son Atem. In German, it means like, the breath like you’re breathing, fresh air, and in Egyptian, it’s like, gift from God.”

Choosing the name Atem represented a compromise between the couple. While it does have connections to Valery’s family, it also carries broader symbolic meanings. The name choice appears to be a way for Emily to concede somewhat, while not fully giving in to Kobe’s initial request. This compromise surprised many fans, especially given Kobe’s desire to name the child after someone who openly dislikes his wife.

It appears Emily gave in to some degree but did not fully capitulate, as the name “Valery” was off the table. Instead, Atem was chosen, satisfying both parties to some extent due to its diverse significances and familial relevance. Fans were taken aback by Kobe’s wish to name their child after someone critical of his spouse, but recognized the effort Emily made to reconcile her husband’s wishes with her own reservations.
