Did House of the Dragon Confirm the Prince Who Was Promised Theory?

Game of Thrones fans have frequently shifted their theories about the Prince Who Was Promised prophecy. Now, it seems House of the Dragon might have just provided some clarity on this long-debated topic.

Throughout Game of Thrones, it was generally considered that either Jon Snow or Daenerys Targaryen was the prophesied figure. For most of the series, Jon appeared to be the frontrunner. It wasn’t until late in the series that some fans started to speculate that it could actually be Daenerys.

There were several compelling reasons why Daenerys fit the prophecy. She survived the fire that hatched her dragon eggs unscathed, and she was the only one with a genuine bond with three dragons, despite riding only one. Her journey to claim the Iron Throne saw her uniting people and her dragons breaking the Wall.

In the season finale of House of the Dragon Season 2, Daemon had a vision showcasing Aegon’s dream. This vision included scenes featuring the White Walkers and Daenerys with her three dragons.

This has led many to believe that Daemon’s vision confirms Daenerys as the Prince Who Was Promised. However, according to Forbes, showrunner Ryan Condal clarified that this vision was not designed to confirm any specific theory. Instead, it was just a symbolic connection via the dragons.

After all, the overarching narrative of the series is titled A Song of Ice and Fire. This vision is part of the legacy passed down within the Targaryen family, signifying that a Targaryen will ultimately face the icy threat beyond the Wall. While this could point to Daenerys, there’s still the possibility that Jon Snow fits the prophecy.

One of the intriguing aspects of House of the Dragon is its use of subtle storytelling. The visions and prophecies are open to interpretation, allowing different viewers to draw different conclusions. It’s not definitively conclusive, and as Helaena mentions, “it’s all a story.” Each character has a role to play, and Daenerys’s destiny is also part of this grand narrative.
