Did Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck Sign a Prenup?

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have officially ended their relationship, raising questions about the absence of a prenuptial agreement.

Reports from TMZ reveal that Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck on August 20. The outlet also indicates that there is “no prenuptial agreement” between the celebrity couple. Moreover, Lopez has reportedly “waived spousal support and is asking the judge to deny Ben such support as well.”

With no prenup in place, all assets and earnings accrued by Affleck and Lopez during their two-year marriage are now considered community property. This includes Affleck’s earnings from movies like Air and The Instigators, as well as Lopez’s income from her films Shotgun Wedding, The Mother, and Atlas. The couple will also have to split their $60+ million mansion, which is currently on the market.

According to TMZ, both Affleck and Lopez have been “trying to hash out a settlement for months.” However, negotiations have become “increasingly acrimonious,” leading to minimal communication between them.

Interestingly, this is not the first time a prenuptial agreement has come up between the two. Cheat Sheet reports that a prenup was drawn up when they first attempted to marry in 2004. This agreement was meant to protect their assets and also included clauses related to infidelity. The prenup stipulated that both could retain their earnings unless Affleck committed adultery. However, this agreement never took effect as their wedding at that time was called off.

When they wed for the second time, Ok! reports that they chose to marry without a prenuptial agreement once again.

As of now, neither Affleck nor Lopez has made any public statements regarding the end of their relationship.
