Did You Know Troye Sivan Discovered Chappell Roan a Decade Ago?

Before Chappell Roan became known by her current stage name, she went by her real name, Kayleigh Rose. Her early music career received significant attention in 2014 when Troye Sivan championed her talent.

“I’ve had this 16-year-old girl on repeat for two months. You HAVE to listen to this, guys – go send some love,” Sivan tweeted, drawing attention to a video, which has since been made private.

An Instagram reel later confirmed that the video Sivan shared was of Chappell’s song “Die Young.”

At that time, Chappell had fewer than 7,000 subscribers when Sivan spotlighted her work.

Sivan further promoted Chappell by tagging her old Twitter account and urging his followers to give her music a listen.

“LETS BLOW KAYLEIGH UP BC I HAVEN’T HEARD A VOICE LIKE THIS SINCE ADELE, NO EXAGGERATION,” he wrote effusively.

YouTube star Connor Franta also endorsed Chappell, emphatically supporting Sivan’s promotion.

“GIVE THAT VOCALLY BLESSED GODDESS HER WELL DESERVED PROMO,” Franta urged.

The Instagram reel also showed Chappell’s gratitude, noting she later posted thanks to Sivan for helping her garner 15,000 views on her song.

Franta spoke further about his connection to Chappell on influencer Brooke Averick’s podcast on August 9.

“My lore with her is that her first-ever YouTube video that she uploaded […] I found it on YouTube with my boyfriend at the time. We found the song, it had like no plays but her voice was unbelievable,” Franta revealed. This also excited fans as it seemed to confirm his relationship with Sivan during that period.

“We started tweeting about it like, ‘This girl is incredible.’ It had like 1,000 plays. This was like 10 years ago,” he continued.

“We genuinely thought, ‘She’s the next – doesn’t make sense now – but like, Adele.’ Her voice was that soulful and unique […] her voice was very particular,” Franta added.

“From then on, I followed her, and throughout the whole journey, I’ve just believed, ‘One day she’s gonna be a star,'” Franta remarked.

Chappell Roan’s journey from a little-known teen singer to a noteworthy artist depicts how a simple act of support from established personalities can make a substantial difference in an emerging artist’s career.
