Diego Luna Shares Sneak Peek of Season 2

After nearly two years of anticipation, “Star Wars” fans at D23 finally got a glimpse of the upcoming season of “Andor,” which is expected to premiere on Disney+ next year.

Diego Luna, who portrays Cassian Andor, made an appearance at the Honda Center in Anaheim to present an exclusive sneak peek of the new season. In the previous season, viewers saw Cassian transition from a self-serving smuggler to a fervent fighter against the Empire, following his false imprisonment and coerced labor on the Death Star’s construction.

“This second part will follow Cassian over the period of four years, where he grows into the leader we see in ‘Rogue One,” Luna explained. “In this season the stakes are greater, the enemies more organized and the clock is ticking.”

Fans of “Rogue One” have much to be excited about, as a sizzle reel at D23 confirmed the return of Ben Mendelson and Alan Tudyk. Mendelson will reprise his role as Imperial Director Orson Krennic, while Tudyk will return as the droid K-2SO. It’s highly probable that the new season will delve into how Cassian reprograms K-2SO from an Imperial droid to a Rebellion ally.

While the “Star Wars” franchise under Disney has sparked diverse opinions among its longtime followers, “Andor” has emerged as one of the most universally praised “Star Wars” stories, potentially the most celebrated since “The Empire Strikes Back.”

As a prequel to the 2016 film “Rogue One,” the series explores how Andor became entrenched in the Rebel Alliance. It has received acclaim for its intricate portrayal of authoritarianism and the various forms of resistance against it. The first season garnered three Emmy nominations, including Outstanding Drama Series.
