Discover Day 1 Speakers, Featuring President Joe Biden

The 2024 Democratic National Committee convention will kick off on Monday evening, featuring an array of influential speakers, including former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez from New York, Rep. Jasmine Crockett from Texas, first lady Jill Biden, and President Joe Biden, among others.

It’s important to note that Biden will not be addressing the convention as a candidate, a decision many anticipated after he withdrew from the presidential race in July. Instead, the 81-year-old president will continue to voice his support for Vice President Kamala Harris as the frontrunner to succeed him come November.

Monday marks the event’s inaugural day, which is set to run through August 22 at the United Center in Chicago. Livestream coverage will be available daily on YouTube, ensuring viewers don’t miss any significant moments from the convention.

The first day of the convention is scheduled to commence at 5 p.m. Eastern Time and will conclude around 10:15 p.m. Eastern Time. This timeframe will allow ample opportunity for attendees and viewers alike to engage with the various discussions and speeches planned for the evening.

According to information released, President Biden is slated to be the final speaker on the first day. His aides have informed the media that he intends to advocate for why Harris is the best candidate to continue his legacy and the values he upholds. During his last public address on July 24, just days after announcing his exit from the race, Biden emphasized the gravity of the current political climate.

“I revere this office, but I love my country more,” Biden stated during his remarks. He expressed that serving as president has been a profound honor, but stressed the importance of protecting democracy, stating that this duty outweighs any positional title.

He reinforced his view that “the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation,” highlighting his belief in the need for fresh leadership.
