Aug. 20 (UPI) — The Star Wars spinoff The Acolyte has been officially canceled by Disney+ after just one season.
Created by Leslye Headland, the show featured a talented ensemble cast including Amandla Stenberg, Lee Jung-jae, Charlie Barnett, Dafne Keen, Rebecca Henderson, Jodie Turner-Smith, Carrie-Anne Moss, and Manny Jacinto. Stenberg played the roles of twins Osha and Mae in the eight-episode series that premiered earlier this summer.
The plot revolved around a mystery-thriller set during the final days of the High Republic era, a period about 100 years before the events depicted in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace. It portrayed the rise of the villainous Sith amidst a time of peace and prosperity in the galaxy.
Fans were encouraged to experience the finale of #TheAcolyte, a Star Wars Original series, streaming on @DisneyPlus.
“It takes a village to build a character, let alone twins,” wrote Stenberg on Instagram back in July. The actress expressed her gratitude towards the team who helped her develop her characters. “Starting with @kellina___ and @cassiejocraig, the best damn stuntwomen in the game, who guided me lovingly and with patience as I grew into a stunt actor, shaped and molded Osha and Mae alongside me with such finesse, and busted their asses to deliver incredible stunt work day in and out,” she added.
Stenberg also expressed her affection for the team, saying, “I love you my dear sisters, and miss wearing our bunny hats in bed after getting our asses kicked all day.”
