Matthew Perry’s sudden death in October 2023 left fans worldwide in deep shock. The actor’s demise was ruled a drug overdose, a revelation that was particularly jarring given Perry’s declarations of sobriety in his memoir Friends, Lovers, and the Big Terrible Thing. His untimely passing has raised questions and concerns about his return to drug use.
The beloved sitcom star was found dead with lethal amounts of ketamine in his system. This discovery led to an in-depth investigation into how he obtained the drug. Recent reports have brought attention to a certain Dr. Mark Chavez, alleging his involvement in supplying Perry with ketamine before his death.
Dr. Chavez, based in San Diego, allegedly coordinated a significant shipment of ketamine to an eager Perry. The two reportedly met at the Long Beach Aquarium parking lot, where Chavez administered a dose of the drug to Perry. At age 54, Chavez now faces serious accusations and is one of five individuals implicated in Perry’s death.
Others facing charges include Dr. Salvador Plasencia, known as the “Ketamine Queen” Jasveen Sangh, Erik Fleming, and Perry’s live-in assistant Kenneth Iwamasa. Iwamasa, who assisted Perry with injections shortly before his death, has pleaded guilty and could face up to 15 years in prison.
The accused individuals seemingly worked together to fulfill Perry’s drug demands. Chavez is alleged to have diverted large quantities of ketamine from his former clinic, passing it to Salvador, who then supplied it to Perry. After admitting his role in the conspiracy, Chavez could face up to 10 years in federal prison.
Dr. Salvador has pled not guilty to the conspiracy charge and is set to stand trial on October 15. Jasveen Sangh, who has also pled not guilty, will face her trial on October 8. The defendants’ medical careers are in jeopardy, with Chavez already facing an interim suspension of his medical license.
