Does ‘Twisters’ Feature a Post-Credits Scene?

Twisters blows into theaters this Friday, featuring stars Daisy Edgar-Jones, Glen Powell, and Anthony Ramos. Does the film’s end credits reveal anything about the franchise’s future?

This weather disaster film serves as a standalone sequel to the 1996 blockbuster Twister, directed by Jan de Bont and starring Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt.

The new entry, directed by double-Oscar nominee Lee Isaac Chung, begins in Oklahoma where meteorologist Kate Carter (played by Edgar-Jones) faces a personal tragedy while chasing a tornado. Fast forward five years, Kate’s ex-colleague Javi (Ramos) seeks her out in New York City, where she’s now employed by the National Weather Service.

Javi, who has started his own storm-tracking company, needs Kate to return to Oklahoma to assist him amidst a devastating tornado outbreak. Once back, Kate meets Tyler Owens (Powell), a renowned YouTube influencer who goes by “The Tornado Wrangler.”

Initially, Kate doesn’t take Tyler seriously due to his self-promotional antics, like sporting jerseys featuring a caricature of himself lassoing a tornado from his storm-chasing rig.

However, Kate soon realizes Tyler isn’t as superficial as he appears. The Tornado Wrangler might be key in helping her finalize a formula to disrupt tornadoes and save lives. To achieve this, though, Kate must confront the darkest chapter of her past.

Note: The following section contains spoilers from the film.

In Twisters, Tyler’s storm-chasing is documented by Ben (Harry Haden-Paten), a British photographer and journalist. Initially, Ben is an amusing side character who doesn’t handle the dangers of storm-chasing well, but as the film unfolds, his significance becomes apparent during the end credits.

Twisters does feature an end credits scene, but it’s presented uniquely. The first half of the end credits showcases a rapid collage of weather-related images, including radar footage, computer models, TV meteorologists, and snippets from the movie.

This sequence gains significance with “clips” from Ben’s article documenting his tornado-chasing adventure. The article includes photos of Kate, Javi, Tyler, and his crew, cementing Kate’s status as a weather pioneer. Another piece notes her partnership with Tyler and Javi on a new weather venture.

The end credits collage concludes with a brief scene where Kate asks Tyler if she should get T-shirts made featuring her face, prompting an amusing response from Tyler’s videographer, Boone (Brandon Perea).

Kate’s joke about the T-shirts teases Tyler’s marketing antics, notably his jersey-style tees displayed throughout the film, which feature the phrase “Not My First Tornadeo”—a playful twist on “Not my first rodeo,” which Kate amusingly utters during the movie.

While Kate’s T-shirt remark is humorous, the end credits leave the door open for a potential Twisters sequel. The franchise’s continuation is contingent on the film’s box office performance, but the formation of a new weather company by Kate, Tyler, and Javi hints at future adventures in the series.

Twisters previews Thursday night and opens in theaters nationwide on Friday.
