Dog Breeder Found Dead; Up to 10 Doberman Puppies Missing

A dog breeder has tragically been discovered dead, and a significant number of his Doberman puppies are currently missing as authorities treat his death as a homicide.

The Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office in Colorado has joined forces with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office to probe the circumstances surrounding the death of 57-year-old Paul Peavey. Peavey was last known to be in communication on the night of August 19 and was officially reported missing on the evening of August 21, according to a statement released by the sheriff’s office.

Just three days later, a search team composed of volunteers stumbled upon the body of an adult male around noon on a Saturday. The coroner’s office confirmed that the deceased individual was indeed Paul Peavey. An autopsy is set to be conducted to ascertain the cause and manner of his death.

In the wake of Peavey’s passing, reports emerged indicating that several Doberman puppies were unaccounted for on his property. As investigators delve into the case, the fate of the puppies is a key focus of their inquiry.

While officials have not established a motive for the homicide, they have stated that the investigation into the missing puppies is ongoing. The Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office mentioned that they are exploring all leads related to this aspect of the case.

“We can confirm that many puppies are unaccounted for, possibly as many as 10,” the sheriff’s office stated. “We are seeking the public’s assistance in locating these puppies.”

The sheriff’s office urged anyone who may have purchased a Doberman puppy within the last week in the central Colorado area to check for a microchip, as all of Mr. Peavey’s puppies are microchipped. They requested that anyone who has recently acquired a puppy contact them at 303-679-2393 or via email at [email protected] to help identify if their puppy came from Peavey.

Furthermore, authorities are asking individuals who bought puppies from Peavey’s business, Elite European Dobermans, since June 2024 to reach out. They are particularly interested in gathering information from those who might have received a puppy or individuals who expected to receive one but haven’t.

While the investigation is still in its infancy, police have vowed to provide further updates that will not jeopardize the integrity of the case or any potential court proceedings.

Officers have expressed that locating the missing puppies could be pivotal in solving Peavey’s homicide case. They have received several tips and are grateful for any information regarding the unaccounted puppies.

Authorities remind the public that anyone with relevant information is encouraged to call the Sheriff’s Office non-emergency line at 303-679-2393 or to submit tips via email at [email protected].
