Dolly Parton Unveils 37-Song Tracklist for ‘Smoky Mountain DNA’, Releases Two Tracks

Coming this fall, Dolly Parton is set to release a new album titled *Dolly Parton & Family: Smoky Mountain DNA – Family, Faith & Fables*. Today, she unveiled the complete tracklist, featuring many of her extended family members and boasting a substantial 37 songs, according to *Rolling Stone*. Along with this announcement, Dolly also released two new songs from the album: the title track and “A Rose Won’t Fix It,” with her niece Heidi Parton on lead vocals. Interestingly, “A Rose Won’t Fix It” was written in 1988 but remained unreleased until now.

Previously, Dolly’s niece Jada shared some insights about the album to the UK division of *The Sun*. The project pays tribute to Dolly’s family legacy and heritage in East Tennessee, with at least 20 of her relatives contributing to the album. It encompasses stories and songs about both her paternal Parton family and maternal Owens family, tracing their origins back to the United Kingdom in the 1600s and following their journey to the Smoky Mountains, where Dolly was raised.

Richie Owens, Dolly’s cousin, produced the album. According to Dolly, *Dolly Parton & Family: Smoky Mountain DNA* honors the family members who helped her realize her dream of becoming a country music star, along with her roots in the Smoky Mountains. She expressed her gratitude, stating, “I cannot believe that it has been 60 years this month since I graduated from Sevier County High School and moved to Nashville to pursue my dreams. My Uncle Bill Owens was by my side for many years, helping me develop my music. I owe so much to him and all the family members past and present who have inspired me along this journey. I am honored to spotlight our families’ musical legacy that is my Smoky Mountain DNA.”

The album is set for release on November 15th, 2024.

In addition to the album, a four-part docuseries will accompany its launch, featuring performances of Dolly and her family at Knoxville’s Bijou Theater. Jada provided more specifics about the content to *The Sun*, explaining, “It is an album that documents her whole life. It has been a huge undertaking which involves the whole family. It is an album she has produced with more than 30 tracks with over 20 family members. She sings with us on every track. The album covers songs written about her childhood, her mother and father, aunts and uncles, brothers and sisters, all the way to her nieces and nephews. We all get to share interpretations of her songs or write our own songs for it. It has been a huge crazy project.”

Dolly Parton’s deep connection to her family and legacy comes through strongly in this ambitious project, capturing a wide array of stories and musical collaborations across generations.
