Don McLean Boldly Declares Something About Taylor Swift

Don McLean, singer of the iconic song “American Pie,” recently shared some strong opinions and valuable advice for superstar Taylor Swift as she concludes her Eras Tour this year.

In a recent conversation with The Standard, McLean praised Swift for her unwavering dedication and immense talent. He remarked, “She is a person who is an example of what talent and really hard work can accomplish… Taylor Swift was a star for 15 years before she became a monster star, the size of the galaxy for god sake.”

McLean highlighted Swift’s tireless work ethic, stating, “She does everything that she does better than everybody else.” He then offered some advice for the 34-year-old artist: “The only thing is that she stays happy.”

McLean stressed the importance of personal happiness in the music industry, saying, “You have to be happy with what you’re doing and a lot of people say well if a song or an album isn’t commercially successful that somehow that’s a negative and I don’t even think of it. It doesn’t matter to me.”

In addition to his praise, McLean also commented on the darker side of the music business, specifically criticizing record companies as “the biggest thieves on the planet.” He referenced Swift’s well-publicized struggle with Scooter Braun, who sold her masters, labeling the incident as “their business stealing. You have to be very careful.”

Swifties, Taylor Swift’s passionate fanbase, took to social media platform X to react to McLean’s comments. One fan replied, “Very high praise from a legend. Rock on Taylor,” while another exclaimed, “THE DON MCLEAN?? OH TAYLEGEND.” A third fan added, “The fact that countless legends of music industry literally praise her..oh Taylor the star that you are 🫶.”

Taylor Swift has seen immense success throughout her career. In 2021, her 10-minute version of “All Too Well (Taylor’s Version)” became the longest No. 1 hit on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart, surpassing McLean’s own “American Pie.”
