‘Doubling Down With The Derricos’ Star Deon Announces Family Tragedy

Deon Derrico recently shared some heartbreaking news on social media with his followers. The Doubling Down With The Derricos family is mourning the loss of Deon’s nephew, Amani. Deon has been requesting prayers for his nephew for several months, but Amani’s battle has tragically come to an end.

Early Saturday morning, Deon Derrico posted an emotional update on Instagram. He shared a photo of himself holding someone’s hand and wrote in the caption, “My Family, friends, and fans… It is with great sadness that I (Deon Derrico) announce the passing of my loving nephew Amani Barkley! Our family is devastated.”

Amani was the son of Deon’s late brother Christopher S. Turner. The family had only met Amani two years ago, an encounter that was featured on Doubling Down With The Derricos. As viewers learned more about Amani’s story, they were touched by his journey.

Deon further expressed in the caption, “In this short time, we have built a bond with Amani and merged our families forever! We ask that you continue to pray for us all.” He also provided information on where supporters could send cards and monetary gifts, mentioning that all funds would go to “The Deon Derrico and Marian Derrico Foundation.” Donations will aid families of liver transplant patients and recipients, as well as cancer patients.

The Doubling Down With The Derricos star added, “My nephew leaves behind his son Adonis, mother Stacey, and a complete host of other family and friends. While GG and I are here in Detroit for the funeral, we will update you all with more details!”

Some weeks back, Deon revealed that Amani had undergone an emergency liver transplant. Sadly, the transplant did not succeed, and after his body rejected the liver, Amani was placed back on the transplant list. He ended up having two liver transplants within two weeks, but neither were successful.

Seeing such a vibrant young man struggle with his health was heartbreaking for the family. Many pointed out that it was particularly hard for GG, as Amani was the last living connection to her late son, Christopher. Only a week ago, GG posted on Instagram, pleading for prayers for Amani, who was fighting for his life.

She wrote, “And now we find ourselves here praying that Amani won’t be joining his father just yet!! This has been absolutely devastating for our family, and we are humbled in knowing that we have all of our fans’ love and support!!”
