Doug Emhoff’s ex-wife jabs at Melania Trump as Harris’s family joins DNC

Kerstin Emhoff, the ex-wife of Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, has made headlines with her enthusiastic support for Kamala Harris, stating that she champions her ex-husband’s current partner more fiercely than Melania Trump shows for her husband, Donald Trump. This comment comes even after their divorce 14 years ago and the admission of an affair during their marriage.

Despite their past, Kerstin maintains a close relationship with both Doug and Kamala, often highlighting their collaborative efforts in co-parenting their children, Ella and Cole Emhoff. Recently, Kerstin joined the “blended” family during the first two days of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago, leading to comparisons between her support for Harris and Melania Trump’s involvement with her husband.

Television producer Ben Wexler shared a post on X noting how Kerstin’s engagement at the DNC outshined Melania’s appearances at this year’s Republican National Convention, where Donald Trump was named the official presidential nominee. In response, Kerstin re-shared the post, affirming with a simple, “Damn right.” This week alone, she has made more appearances than Melania did during her husband’s convention.

Kerstin shared a happy moment with Tim Walz and her children at the DNC.

Kerstin, a 57-year-old film producer, has taken to social media to share her experiences at the DNC. She posted a selfie on Instagram featuring her children and Harris’s running mate, Tim Walz, captioning it with a heartwarming note, “It was like new members of the family.”

Throughout the years, Kerstin has been a consistent advocate for Kamala Harris, not only celebrating her political achievements but also appreciating her role as a co-parent. Her dedication was evident when she participated in Harris’s inauguration as vice president in 2021.

Recently, Kerstin responded to derogatory remarks about Harris made by Republican JD Vance, which branded her and other Democrats as “childless cat ladies.” In a statement to CNN, she labeled those comments as “baseless attacks,” reaffirming her admiration for Harris. “For over 10 years, since Cole and Ella were teenagers, Kamala has been a co-parent with Doug and me. She is loving, nurturing, fiercely protective, and always present,” she expressed. “I love our blended family and am grateful to have her in it.”

At the DNC, Harris’s family dynamic has become a focal point, with her stepson and husband both presenting their support. On Tuesday evening, they spoke on stage, sharing personal anecdotes and discussing their family life. Doug proudly referred to Harris as a “joyful” political warrior, commending her strength and capability.

Doug Emhoff speech
Doug Emhoff celebrated Kamala Harris at the DNC.

During his keynote speech, Doug praised his wife’s readiness to lead, underscoring the pivotal role she has played in their family and in his life. “Wherever she’s needed, however she’s needed, Kamala rises to the occasion,” he told the energetic audience. “And she did it for me and my family. Now that the country needs her, she’s showing you what we already know: she’s ready to lead.”

Doug reminisced about the moment he met Harris, describing it as life-changing and confidently foreseeing her potential as president. His 30-year-old son, Cole, introduced him on stage, sharing heartwarming stories about their family’s experiences in the political sphere.

In a touching video, Cole acknowledged how their family adjusted to the political landscape after Doug and Kamala married, humorously recalling how his father transitioned into a political role. “When Kamala became vice president, it felt like Doug was a bit out of place on Capitol Hill. I thought, ‘What is my goofy dad doing here?’” he shared.

If Harris wins in November, she would not only become the first female president but also the first Black and Asian-American president, while also potentially introducing the first gentleman into the White House. Cole highlighted this unique dynamic by saying, “We might not look like other families in the White House, but we are ready to represent all families in America.”

Meanwhile, Kerstin’s daughter, Ella, has been an active presence at the DNC, often seen wearing a Harris-Walz camo hat, embodying the spirit of their supportive family.
