Dragon Ball Daima Provides Major Update on Production

Dragon Ball Daima is finally set to make its highly anticipated debut this October. Those involved in the production have shared a significant update on the progress of the anime. Dragon Ball will celebrate the 40th anniversary of Akira Toriyama’s original manga’s launch in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine this Fall, and the festivities will include a new anime series featuring an original story. This new series has been largely kept under wraps, aside from a few promotional materials and trailers.

The wait for the anime won’t be much longer as Dragon Ball Daima will premiere in Japan on October 11th. Head of programming at Fuji TV, Yuichi Nakajima, provided an exciting update (as reported by Mantan Web), revealing that “all the episodes [of Dragon Ball Daima] are ready” for broadcast. This means fans worrying about potential production delays can rest easy, knowing the entire series is set to go when it premieres in October.

Dragon Ball Daima premieres on October 11th in Japan, although international plans and release platforms have yet to be announced. The late Akira Toriyama played a crucial role in crafting the original main story and character designs for Dragon Ball Daima. Yoshitaka Yashima and Aya Komaki are directing the series for Toei Animation, with Katsuyoshi Nakatsuru adapting Toriyama’s designs for animation, and Yuuko Kakihara supervising and writing the scripts.

Masako Nozawa returns to provide the voice for Goku, and is currently the only confirmed voice cast member for Dragon Ball Daima (with an English dub yet to be confirmed). Akira Toriyama had previously teased the original story for Dragon Ball Daima:

“Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things, they’ll head off to a new world! It’s a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious world. Since Goku has to make up for his petite size, he uses his Power Pole to fight, something not seen in a long time.”
