Drake Accused of Blocking Kendrick’s ‘Not Like Us’ in Houston

Drake is facing accusations of banning Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” from being played in clubs across Houston.

On Monday (July 22), Houston-based DJ Ari responded to a claim on X (formerly Twitter) that stated, “Drake really got Not Like Us banned in Houston.” Ari confirmed the allegation, tweeting, “Yea i done already got in trouble a few times for playing it at some clubs.”

Other users on X echoed similar sentiments, with one person alleging that clubs such as Sekai, Clé, Prospect Park, and Kamp had prohibited the track from being played.

While it’s uncertain if Drake, often referred to as the 6 God, is indeed influencing this situation, his connection to Houston dates back to the early stages of his career. Just last October, Drake purchased a sprawling $15 million mansion called The Inn at Dos Brisas, situated in Chappell Hill, Texas, about 45 minutes from Houston. The property covers an impressive 313 acres and was formerly a resort.

At this time, Drake’s representatives have not provided any comments regarding the allegations.

Drake was recently spotted in Texas in June, shopping for cowboy gear at the Brenham Saddle Shop in Brenham. An image captured from the visit shows Drake standing with the shop’s owner, wearing what appears to be a newly-acquired cowboy hat.

The shop shared their experience on social media, saying, “Yesterday we received a call that a certain person wanted to stop by our store. We dropped everything and opened up for a few hours. We didn’t know what to expect but the whole experience was beyond what we expected. Every single person in his group was extremely friendly and welcoming. Thank you Drake and his team for stopping by and getting all fixed up. Welcome to Washington County, Texas!”

Drake has also showcased his new Texas property, including a $200,000 armored Apocalypse Super Truck.

As the story unfolds, the music community continues to speculate about the true extent of Drake’s influence over Houston’s club scene and the ban on Kendrick Lamar’s track.
