Drew Carey Flaunts 80-Lb Weight Loss After Conquering ‘Yo-Yo Dieting’ Struggles

Drew Carey is looking better than ever these days, largely due to maintaining his impressive 80-lb weight loss, which he began working on back in 2010.

According to an August 2024 interview with People, the 66-year-old actor, comedian, and The Price Is Right host started his fitness journey 14 years ago after a significant wakeup call from his doctor. Carey hasn’t looked back since. Here’s more about his remarkable weight loss transformation.

“I would go out to Swingers diner after The Price Is Right my first year, get a plate of pasta, a cupcake, and iced tea with a bunch of lemons,” Carey shared with People about his life before his weight loss journey. “Then I’d go home, have Doritos and several Pepsis, and take an Ambien to go to sleep. It was miserable to live like that.”

The Drew Carey Show host, who, according to the Daily Mail, was a self-confessed “yo-yo dieter,” recalled a particularly eye-opening visit with his doctor that essentially scared him into changing his habits and prioritizing his health.

“‘If you don’t do something, your life’s going to be shorter, and you’ll have these bad things to look forward to,'” he recounted.

Since embarking on his weight loss journey all those years ago, Carey looks and feels better than ever. Not only is his transformation evident in before-and-after pictures, but there are also hidden benefits. According to People, he reversed his Type 2 Diabetes.

“It’s better being like this and having my blood sugar at these levels, and I love myself enough now to want that for myself and desire that for myself,” he told People about his improved health and defeating Type 2 Diabetes.

So, how did he achieve this? After the wakeup call from his doctor, Carey reportedly incorporated a balanced diet and regular exercise into his routine. Specifically, he cut out carbs and dedicated himself to 45-minute cardio workouts several times a week.

Like everyone, Carey has some cheat meals, which he shared with People. “I’ll have cake and stuff every once in a while. I’m not a maniac, but I won’t eat the whole cake like I did before,” he confessed.

Despite occasionally indulging, Carey seems to be loving his life since his weight loss transformation. “It’s just a better attitude all the way around,” he told the publication.

He added, “That’s part of my happiness now, is being able to look in the mirror and go, ‘Oh, I like my haircut, I like my face, I like the way I’m dressed, and I look good in this.’ I don’t have to sit in a corner or apologize to myself in my head when I’m talking to somebody, you know what I mean? All these things you do when you’re overweight or you think something’s wrong with you.”
