‘DWTS’ Reveals First Celebrity Contestant for Season 33

Dancing With The Stars has announced its first celebrity contestant for the upcoming season. Olympic bronze medalist Stephen Nedoroscik was revealed as the first DWTS contestant for Season 33 on Good Morning America. Here is what you need to know about the Olympian and what he’ll bring to the dancing competition.

After being introduced as one of the competitors for Season 33, Stephen showcased some of his pommel horse moves for the GMA audience. He will be the first male gymnast to appear on DWTS.

Stephen is known online as the “pommel horse guy.” He contributed significantly to the USA men’s gymnastics team’s bronze victory at the Paris Olympics, their first medal in 16 years. Describing the win as the “greatest moment” of his life, it has opened up new opportunities for him, including DWTS.

Besides being recognized as the “pommel horse guy,” Stephen has also become known for his thick glasses. Many on social media have said the glasses make him look like Clark Kent, and he certainly came to the USA men’s gymnastics team’s rescue this year.

However, Stephen did not wear his glasses while on the pommel horse. He explained that he doesn’t rely on his vision for the pommel horse routine but rather feels everything with his hands. The question remains, will he be able to apply the same technique on DWTS?

“Yeah, I might have fun with it,” he said on GMA. “I’m scared they’ll fly off, but maybe we could come up with a gadget to keep them in place or perhaps a new pair of glasses to match the theme, right? That’s what I’m thinking.”

Stephen has also become an advocate for people with low vision. He is cross-eyed and has coloboma, a condition where a part of the eye tissue is missing. A touching moment between Stephen and a fan with the same condition went viral.

The USA Gymnastics team shared a post on social media detailing the “really, really special moment” on Instagram. Stephen gave pins to the young fan and spent a few minutes with him.

He hopes to bring his gymnastics skills to the dance floor. The Olympic bronze medalist told Robin Roberts, “I’m hoping to bring some of them. I want to bring some flares, I want to bring some of that gymnastics. Maybe a backflip or handstand. I want to have fun with it.”

When Stephen was approached about competing on Dancing With The Stars, he did not hesitate to accept the opportunity. He’s thrilled about participating in Season 33 of the dance competition.

Other competitors have yet to be revealed, but Julianne Hough and Alfonso Ribeiro will be returning to host DWTS. Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba, and Derek Hough will also be back to judge the competition show.

Dancing With The Stars Season 33 will premiere on Tuesday, September 17 at 8 p.m. EST on ABC and Disney+. New episodes will be available to stream the next day on Hulu.
