Earl Spencer Bids ‘Farewell’ Amid Split, Updates Fans on Althorp’s Future

The news of Earl Charles Spencer and his wife, Countess Karen Spencer, announcing their surprise split broke in June. On Thursday, the Earl shared an update on the future of Althorp House via social media.

Posting on Althorp House’s official Instagram page, he informed the estate’s 58,000 followers about the seasonal closure. He mentioned that the property would close that evening, but assured that it would reopen in 2025.

He wrote: “Wow, what an incredible season it has been with all of our wonderful visitors at Althorp House! As we bid farewell to 2024 and get ready to close our gates this evening, we’re already getting excited about welcoming you back in 2025 when we reopen our doors!”

Fans were thrilled about this news and flooded the post with heart emojis, expressing their anticipation for the next season.

Accompanying the update was a stunning photograph of one of Althorp’s grand communal rooms. The image showcased a dramatic checkerboard floor, soaring ceilings, and massive artworks adorning the walls. The room featured an ornate lantern light with an encased candelabra, flanked by wooden carved chairs. A sideboard displayed a beautiful bust statue and a large floral urn.

It’s customary for Althorp House to close during this time of year after welcoming numerous visitors throughout the summer months.

Spread over 550 acres and featuring 90 rooms, Althorp also includes a special temple dedicated to Princess Diana, who is buried there. The estate is as spectacular as one might imagine.

Princess Diana’s brother frequently shares glimpses of the grand residence on Instagram, much to the delight of his followers who are captivated by its grandeur.

The 59-year-old Earl shared the news of his divorce with the Mail On Sunday at the start of summer. “I just want to devote myself to all my children, and to my grandchildren, and I wish Karen every happiness in the future,” he stated.

The couple shares one daughter, Lady Charlotte Diana Spencer, who was born in 2012 and has been raised at Althorp.

Countess Karen Spencer addressed the divorce on Instagram, expressing her plans to reconnect with her social media followers starting in September.

“I’m currently still at Althorp, and as we move into the fall, I look forward to closing this chapter out with you all and launching the next. I will be sharing an update on my projects and reflecting on all the wonderful things I have learned during my time here on this beautiful estate,” she wrote.

She also reassured her followers that she would be taking her beloved sheep, Lucky and Minty, with her when she leaves the estate. “And for those of you who have been asking, don’t worry, Lucky and Minty will be coming with me. In the meantime, I hope you are all having a wonderful summer,” she added.
