General Manager Stan Bowman emphasized the significance of Draisaitl’s new contract, stating, “This is a historic day for the Edmonton Oilers. Leon’s commitment to our team, city, and fans cannot be overstated.” His dedication to helping bring a Stanley Cup title back to Edmonton is a driving force behind his efforts both on and off the ice.

During the past season, Draisaitl, now 28 years old, impressed with 41 goals and 65 assists across 81 games. His performance in the playoffs was equally stellar; he added 10 goals and 21 assists, playing a crucial role in leading the Oilers to the Stanley Cup Final for the first time since 2006.

Having won multiple prestigious awards, including the Hart Memorial Trophy, Ted Lindsay Award, and Art Ross Trophy in the 2019-20 season, Draisaitl boasts impressive statistics in his career with the Oilers. To date, he has recorded 347 goals and 503 assists over 719 games, placing him fifth in franchise history for both goals and assists.

The Oilers made a strong playoff run this past season but ultimately fell short, losing to the Florida Panthers in a hard-fought seven-game series in the Stanley Cup Final. The team is eager to build on this momentum as they prepare for upcoming games.

The Oilers’ preseason will kick off with a game against the Winnipeg Jets on September 22 in Edmonton, Alberta. The regular season opener for the Oilers is scheduled for October 9, when they will again face the Jets at Rogers Place, marking the start of a new chapter for the team and its fans.
