ElevenLabs Uses AI to Have Late Artists Like Burt Reynolds Narrate Content

ElevenLabs is pioneering a fascinating new development by utilizing the legendary voices of deceased artists in its Reader app. Through this innovative application, users can hear the voices of AI-rendered Judy Garland, Burt Reynolds, James Dean, and Sir Laurence Olivier narrate their content.

This feature is made possible due to agreements with the estates of these late stars for undisclosed sums. These AI voices are now part of the Reader app’s “Iconic Voice Collection.” The voices are exclusively available on the Reader App for narrating e-books.

In their YouTube advertisement, ElevenLabs showcases AI Judy Garland reading an excerpt from “The Wizard of Oz.” Launched in June, the Reader App allows users to listen to text content from their mobile devices, including texts, PDFs, and news articles.

Currently, the service is available only in English and limited to iOS users in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada. However, ElevenLabs has announced a waitlist for Android users and plans to release the app on Google Play in the “coming weeks.”

Moreover, the company aims to expand its language support with the goal of making the app available in all 29 languages supported by its Multilingual model, with plans to roll it out internationally.

ElevenLabs was founded in 2022 with a focus on natural speech synthesis and voice replication technology. The company aims to enable customers to create realistic AI voices in multiple languages and accents.

Since its inception, ElevenLabs has remained committed to advancing speech AI research and product development. The technology has been implemented across various industries, including publishing, gaming, media, and conversational AI.

Recently, ElevenLabs has been enhancing its AI models and forming partnerships to broaden the reach of its AI voice cloning services. One such collaboration is with Pocket FM, aimed at converting screenplays into audio programs rapidly using artificial intelligence.

Pocket FM, which secured $103 million in Series D funding in March, tested ElevenLabs’ text-to-audio technology. This partnership will allow Pocket FM to offer the technology to all artists in the coming weeks.

Thanks to this collaboration, Pocket FM produced 30,000 hours of audio series during the testing phase using ElevenLabs’ AI. The new deployment aims to triple its content collection to 100,000 hours by year-end. During testing, the AI-powered technology reduced audio production costs by 90%.

Prateek Dixit, co-founder, and CTO of Pocket FM, highlighted that this cooperation would benefit the 250,000 writers on the Pocket Novel writing platform. The AI technology enables authors to generate 30 minutes of high-quality audio daily, significantly boosting productivity.

The platform utilizes ElevenLabs’ technology to offer authors 50 different voices for content creation. Mati Staniszewski, co-founder of ElevenLabs, mentioned that their algorithm automatically detects emotions based on voice and textual contexts.

In addition to advancements in AI-generated sounds, ElevenLabs has also made strides in speech technology. The company recently closed an $80 million Series B funding round, attracting notable venture capital companies.
