Elizabeth Warren and Carole King Help Raise $122K for Harris Fundraiser

Carole King, known as the “original cat lady,” and Democratic Senator Elizabeth Warren recently played a pivotal role in raising an impressive $122,000 for the Harris-Walz campaign during a virtual fundraiser organized by Swifties for Kamala on Tuesday night.

Although Taylor Swift has not yet endorsed any candidate in the upcoming 2024 elections, her devoted fans have rallied together to support Democrats through the Swifties for Kamala initiative. The group aims to mobilize Swift’s fan base to contribute to getting Democratic candidates elected at all levels.

Participants were encouraged to donate amounts like $13 and $19.89—numbers that resonate with Swift’s fans—alongside $47, which symbolizes aspirations for a new presidency.

The online event, lasting two hours, saw a strong influx of contributions, highlighting the effectiveness of their fundraising strategies.

At the event’s opening, Senator Warren addressed the enthusiastic crowd of Swift fans, asserting their resilience and ability to confront adversaries, notably Donald Trump. She emphasized that the Harris campaign is rooted in standing up against such “bullies.”

“It’s about standing up for what is right in the face of bullies like Donald Trump,” Warren declared, underscoring the importance of advocacy and fighting for democratic values.

Warren further highlighted the potential dangers posed by Trump and other Republican leaders, stating, “They are trying to claw us back into the dark days. Days where women have to wait when they’re on the verge of death to get abortion care they need… Under a Kamala Harris presidency, our future is bright.”

Music icon Carole King was introduced to the assembly of over 34,000 Swifties with a nod to her affectionate connection to the singer, marking a humorous response to JD Vance’s controversial remarks about “childless cat ladies.”

In her address, King, who playfully referred to Swift as her “musical and songwriting granddaughter,” encouraged the crowd to engage in grassroots efforts and volunteer for the Harris-Walz campaign.

“I’ve been a political activist for years,” King shared, offering her experience to inspire the younger generation.

She continued by advising them on the art of door knocking, saying, “The key to door knocking is asking a good question and then listening. Don’t be afraid. There is nothing to lose and everything to gain.”

To the delight of her audience, King also entertained the group with a fresh take on her classic tune “Shake It Off,” linking her music with Swift’s contribution to her induction into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame.

King’s previous response to Vance’s comments included a cheeky Instagram post featuring her famous album cover alongside the caption: “Cat ladies for Kamala,” further solidifying her support for the current political movement.

Other Democratic figures gracing the virtual platform included Senators Kirsten Gillibrand and Ed Markey, along with Congressman Chris Deluzio and Congresswoman Becca Balint.

The Swifties for Harris initiative gained traction recently after Trump inaccurately suggested that Swift had expressed support for him. This followed his sharing of manipulated images featuring the singer and her fans adorned in “Swifties for Trump” attire.

When asked about the potential for a lawsuit from Swift in response to his claims, Trump claimed ignorance regarding the images, stating, “I don’t know anything about them, other than somebody else generated them. I didn’t generate them.”
