Ella Emhoff Wore a Dress by This Viral TikTok Designer to 2024 DNC

Ella Emhoff collaborated with a designer popular on TikTok to craft her attire for the fourth night of the 2024 Democratic National Convention.

On August 22, the 25-year-old supported her stepmother, Kamala Harris, in Chicago, donning a bespoke design by Joe Ando.

Ando, a graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology and an actor from “The Walking Dead,” created an off-the-shoulder dress for Emhoff. The dress featured a periwinkle top and a white ruffled skirt with a V-shaped waistline. Emhoff completed the look with crew socks and black ballet flats.

Before Emhoff revealed the dress on national television, Ando hinted at the collaboration for the “historic event” on TikTok, where he boasts 2.9 million followers. When the moment arrived, he shared a reaction video celebrating the occasion.

“Watching a dress you made on national television,” Ando wrote across his TikTok clip, exclaiming, “ELLA LOOKS SO GOOD!!” in the caption. He also posted the video on Instagram, where Emhoff enthusiastically commented, “WE DID IT JOE!!!!!” referencing a viral meme from the 2020 election when Harris and President Joe Biden were confirmed winners.

Ando originally gained notoriety by crafting clothing for his partner, Niamh Adkins. In a TikTok video from June 27, Ando explained that he began designing in his parents’ garage and continued honing his craft in his apartment until he secured his own art studio this year.

His social media success transformed him into a well-known figure, even among celebrities, earning a reputation for creating custom pieces for A-list stars. He is widely recognized for his catchphrase, “Can I make you a dress?”

Earlier this year in February, Ando designed a cobweb-inspired dress for Dakota Johnson during her “Madame Web” press tour. The following month, he created a piece for Millie Bobby Brown, inspired by her film “Damsel.” His recent clients include Keke Palmer and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan from “Never Have I Ever.”
