Ella Emhoff’s DNC Dress Co-Created with TikToker: ‘We Did It Joe!’

Energizing the atmosphere around the Democratic National Convention, Ella Emhoff, the stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris, is channeling a memorable moment from the 2020 election into a vibrant and fashionable appearance.

In a nod to the viral moment when “Momala” expressed her joy to President Joe Biden by saying, “We did it, Joe,” Emhoff is not just reliving that sentiment but also establishing her presence with a unique political partnership.

For the Democratic National Convention, Emhoff collaborated with popular TikTok designer Joe Ando, crafting a striking off-the-shoulder dress adorned with a crochet flower detail on one side and a chic drop waist. The ensemble was showcased on Day 4 of the convention, making headlines for its stylish flair.

Emhoff couldn’t contain her excitement, posting “WE DID IT JOE!!!!!” in the comments of a video shared by Ando. This collaboration symbolizes a blend of design prowess and political enthusiasm that resonates well with the younger generation.

Ella Emhoff joined by Helena Hudlin and Meena Harris as she addresses attendees at the Democratic National Convention.

Ando, who enjoys a robust social media following with over 2.7 million Instagram followers and nearly 3 million on TikTok, initially revealed the blue-and-white dress in a TikTok video on Monday. He hinted that audiences would see the creation on television soon, generating buzz ahead of Emhoff’s appearance.

On the day of the convention, Emhoff took the stage before Vice President Harris’s speech, sharing heartfelt stories about their relationship. Accompanied by Harris’ goddaughter Helena Hudlin and her niece Meena Harris, Emhoff reflected on the influence Harris had since she entered her life when Emhoff was just 14 years old.

“Kamala came into my life when I was 14, famously a very easy time for a teenager,” she recounted to the audience. “Like a lot of young people, I didn’t always understand what I was feeling but no matter what, Kamala was there for me. She was patient, caring and always took me seriously.”

Emhoff emphasized the importance of being heard and recognized that Harris had always listened deeply, conveying a message of inclusivity and connection. “She’s never stopped listening to me and she’s not going to stop listening to all of us,” she stated, reinforcing her belief in her stepmother’s commitment to the community.

In a previous interview, Harris shared insights into her family’s dynamics, mentioning that her stepson Cole was named after jazz musician John Coltrane, while Ella drew her name from the legendary jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald. Ella graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City in May 2021. Recently, Cole celebrated his marriage to Greenley Littlejohn, with Harris officiating the ceremony.

Ella Emhoff is the daughter of Kerstin Emhoff, Doug Emhoff’s ex-wife, and maintains a strong bond with both her mother and Kamala Harris. Kerstin Emhoff, a recognized filmmaker and Emmy Award winner, expressed her admiration for Harris, stating, “She is loving, nurturing, fiercely protective, and always present. I love our blended family and am grateful to have her in it.”

The interplay of fashion and politics showcased by Ella Emhoff at the DNC not only celebrates her stepmother’s achievements but also stands as an embodiment of the vibrant energy of a new generation stepping into the political sphere.

The connection between personal stories and public service is evident in Emhoff’s narrative, demonstrating how family ties and shared experiences shape the discourse in contemporary politics.

Through her artistic expressions and genuine testimonials, Ella Emhoff is carving out her space within the political landscape, emphasizing the significance of support, listening, and community.
