Elon Musk’s Brother Recalls Watching a Man Die from Head Stab Wound

Elon Musk’s younger brother Kimbal recently opened up about a traumatic childhood memory from their days growing up in South Africa.

Kimbal, who at 51 is a successful restaurateur, shared the memory in an interview with The Times. He reminisced about how he and his billionaire sibling Elon, along with their sister Tosca, were raised by Maye and Errol Musk in Johannesburg during the Seventies and Eighties.

During the interview, Kimbal recalled a harrowing incident that left a lasting impact on him. He described a moment when he was on a train with Elon, and a man in front of them was suddenly stabbed in the head as they tried to exit the carriage.

“And he just died right there,” Kimbal said. “A big pool of blood was forming in front of me. And everyone on the train was trying to get out. So I just had to step in this pool of blood. I still remember the stickiness of it [as I walked].”

Kimbal also touched upon the strained relationship he had with his father, Errol Musk. He expressed how the experience shaped his understanding of what not to do as a father and in many other aspects of life, describing these lessons as “very valuable.”

In her 2019 book, A Woman Makes a Plan, Kimbal and Elon’s mother Maye Musk also wrote about Errol’s abusive behaviour. She detailed an instance where Errol hit her in front of the children, recounting how Tosca and Kimbal, just two and four years old at the time, would cry in the corner, while Elon, then five, attempted to intervene by hitting Errol on the back of his knees.

Kimbal further reflected on witnessing his brother Elon being beaten up at school. He described how a group targeted Elon, attempting to beat him to death for reasons that seemed unjustified. Kimbal, feeling helpless, said, “I was just there. There was nothing I could do.”

Aside from his childhood experiences, Elon Musk is widely known for his ambitious plans to colonize Mars and his involvement in several high-profile companies. He owns Tesla, social media platform Twitter/X, aerospace company SpaceX, and neurotechnology firm Neuralink.

Earlier this week, Neuralink announced its plans to implant its second brain chip into a living human, despite complications with the first recipient, 29-year-old Noland Arbaugh, who received the chip in January.

According to Musk and Neuralink executives, the next operation is expected to take place “in the next week or so.” Following that, the company aims to implant the chip in several more people, aiming for numbers in the “high single digits” by the end of the year.
