Eminem Performs in Front of Childhood Home in ‘Tobey’ Video

Eminem has officially unveiled the music video for his track “Tobey,” which features Big Sean and BabyTron.

On Monday, July 8, Eminem launched the much-anticipated visual for “Tobey.” The song includes verses from fellow Detroit artists Sean Don and BabyTron. Directed by Cole Bennett, the video showcases the trio delivering their sharp rhymes from various settings such as a warehouse and a spaceship. One memorable scene features BabyTron and Slim Shady hanging out at what appears to be Eminem’s childhood home located at 19946 Dresden St. in Detroit.

During this scene, BabyTron lyrically asserts his G.O.A.T. status while walking around Eminem’s old residence. The camera then shifts to Eminem, who begins rapping about his humble beginnings and his mission to inspire the youth, all while sitting on the porch.

“Tobey Maguire got bit by a spider, but see, me, it was a goat/If you want space, I hope you take your helmet off soon as you get up to Venus and choke,” they rap on the chorus. “Even while sleepin’, be thinkin’ so woke/White Cartiers, all I’m seein’ is dope (Yeah)/My city Leia and I’m Obi-Wan, got a mission to pass, I just might be the hope.”

Towards the end of the video, Eminem, sporting a Jason mask, is seen using a chainsaw to dismember someone off-camera, resulting in a bloody mess. The camera then pulls back to show a chalk outline of a person. Initially slated to premiere on July 5 via YouTube, the “Tobey” music video was postponed and released today.

“Tobey” marks the second single from Eminem’s highly awaited album, The Death of Slim Shady (Coupe de Grâce), which is set to drop on July 12. The track is produced by John Nocito, Daniyel, Carlton McDowell, Cole Bennett, and Eminem himself. Dr. Dre announced Em’s upcoming LP during a March episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! Slim Shady later confirmed the album and has been promoting it through a series of creative teasers, including a newspaper obituary and a true-crime-themed trailer. The album’s lead single, “Houdini,” was released in late May.
