Emma Corrin felt ‘so bad’ filming Deadpool & Wolverine role

Emma Corrin has opened up about the moment in the blockbuster film where their character’s actions left them feeling “so bad.” In the latest Marvel hit, Corrin stars as the villainous Cassandra Nova alongside Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, and several other stars who make surprise cameo appearances—excluding Josh Brolin, who appeared in “Deadpool 2.”

Previously known for portraying Princess Diana in “The Crown,” Corrin had shared details about their new character’s portrayal but has now revealed a specific scene in the film that made them feel particularly guilty.

*Spoiler alert – you have been warned*

In the film, Cassandra Nova kills Human Torch, the Fantastic Four character played by Chris Evans in the 2005 film and its 2007 sequel, “Rise of the Silver Surfer.” Evans’s appearance is shocking since the Fantastic Four films were not part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), where Evans starred as Captain America.

Speaking to British GQ, Corrin said they “felt so bad” when they watched the film last week. They explained, “We watched it after the New York premiere at Lincoln Center full of fans, and everyone was so excited when they saw him appear on screen. Then after three minutes, I’ve killed him. I felt terrible. I was hiding in my seat.”

Corrin added, “Yeah, it was weird. Not something I thought I’d be doing if you’d asked me a few years ago.”

Reflecting on the film’s many cameos, Corrin praised Marvel for their effective use of surprise appearances. “That’s something Marvel does so well. They give the people what they want. They give them cameos. But they also don’t use them gratuitously. They’re all there for a reason. And I think you really sense that. Or, I hope people sense that, because I think they’re used really cleverly.”

Emma Corrin had initially felt disappointment when the film’s director, Shawn Levy, instructed them not to play Cassandra “as a villain.” They shared, “I was, like, what? Are you serious? After all that?” However, Levy explained that he wanted Corrin’s supervillain to be unpredictable.

Corrin revealed that Levy directed them to “change the weather” and switch emotions instantly, to avoid turning the character into a caricature of evil.

“Deadpool & Wolverine” has become a massive success, on track to become the highest-grossing film of the year. That title is currently held by “Inside Out 2,” making 2024 a promising year for Disney after a lackluster showing at the box office in 2023.
