Emma Corrin’s ‘Terrible’ Reaction to Shocking Cameo Death in Deadpool 3

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Deadpool 3 (aka Deadpool and Wolverine)

Chris Evans made a surprising return to the Marvel universe as Johnny Storm/the Human Torch in Deadpool 3, only to be killed off by Cassandra Nova, portrayed by Emma Corrin. The Crown star shared their thoughts on Evans’ appearance and his character’s quick demise.

During an interview with GQ, Corrin was asked how they felt about getting to kill Evans in the film. Describing it as “absolutely mad,” Corrin admitted that seeing Marvel fans’ disappointment at the New York premiere was heart-wrenching.

“I felt so bad during the screening the other day. We watched it after the New York premiere with a theater full of fans at Lincoln Center. Everyone was so excited when they saw him appear on screen, and then after three minutes, I’ve killed him,” Corrin said. “I felt terrible. I was hiding in my seat.”

“Yeah, it was weird. Not something I thought I’d be doing if you’d asked me a few years ago,” Corrin continued.

They then commended Marvel’s effective use of cameos, like those of Evans and Channing Tatum’s Gambit, appreciating how they were woven into the story without feeling forced.

“That’s something [Marvel] does so well, the cameos,” Corrin praised. “You know, they give the people what they want. They give them cameos. But they also don’t use them gratuitously. They’re all there for a reason. And I think you really sense that. Or, I hope people sense that, because I think they’re used really cleverly.”

The antagonist of Deadpool 3 is Cassandra Nova, played by Emma Corrin. Known for their award-winning role as Princess Diana in The Crown, Corrin has since appeared in other TV series such as Ten Percent and A Murder at the End of the World. On the big screen, Corrin has starred in films like My Policeman alongside Harry Styles and Daniel Levy’s Good Grief.

Looking ahead, Corrin has a role in the upcoming Robert Eggars’ remake of Nosferatu, where they will star alongside Bill Skarsgård, Nicholas Hoult, Lily-Rose Depp, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson.

Deadpool 3 marks the first team-up between the titular character, played by Ryan Reynolds, and Wolverine, portrayed by Hugh Jackman. The plot kicks off when the Time Variance Authority (TVA) recruits both heroes for a mission, sending them to the Void—a Mad Max-like dystopian land ruled by Cassandra Nova.

Throughout the movie, fans are treated to numerous cameos, including Chris Evans’ brief but memorable return as the Human Torch. Although Evans is widely recognized for his role as Captain America in the MCU, his first Marvel character was Johnny Storm in Fox’s Fantastic Four movies. Despite his short screen time in Deadpool 3, Evans also appears in a post-credits scene.

The film has been a massive box office success. In less than two weeks, Deadpool and Wolverine has grossed over $820 million worldwide, setting a new record for R-rated movies.

Deadpool 3 has also surpassed Mel Gibson’s Passion of the Christ, becoming the highest-grossing R-rated movie domestically. While Gibson’s film earned $370 million in the U.S. during its run, Deadpool 3 has already made over $395 million domestically.
