Emma Roberts Denies Rumors of Starring in Britney Spears Biopic

Emma Roberts, a well-known Britney Spears fan, has clarified rumors about her playing the pop icon in an upcoming biopic. The 33-year-old actress addressed these speculations in an interview with Cosmopolitan, shutting them down but also expressing her excitement about the possibility.

Speculation began when Britney’s former assistant, Felicia Culotta, suggested that Emma would be an ideal choice to portray the “Toxic” singer. Emma responded positively to the suggestion, saying, “I love her assistant. I mean, it’s my true dream to play Britney Spears. It’s just a rumor, but I hope maybe it’ll come true.”

Emma shared a nostalgic memory from her teenage years: “I remember locking myself in my room and listening to In the Zone, saying, ‘I cannot leave until I memorize every word.’” As an actress born in the 1990s, Emma grew up amidst Britney’s meteoric rise to fame, from the debut of “…Baby One More Time” to the release of “Circus.”

Emma, who has gained fame through her roles in “American Horror Story” and other projects, is now set to work with “Wicked” producer Marc Platt on a new screen venture. Though details about the biopic are scant, Britney herself hinted at the project on August 1, sharing her excitement on X (formerly Twitter). She said the 67-year-old filmmaker has “always made my favorite movies…stay tuned.”

Fans of Britney were quick to express their excitement over the news. One enthusiastic supporter posted, “I’m seated. The theatre employees are scared and asking me to leave because it’s ‘Not released yet’ but I’m simply too seated.”

While the idea of Emma portraying Britney remains just a rumor for now, the actress shared with Cosmopolitan how surreal it would be if it came true. She also revealed that her admiration for Britney’s music extends into her parenting. “Oh yeah! I mean, I sing Britney to my son in the bath all the time. I’m always like, ‘God, he must think I’m so weird.’ That’s some millennial parenting,” she joked.
