Eric Dane of Euphoria Shares Uncertain Update on Season 3

While HBO’s hit series Euphoria is set to return for its third season, one of its stars, Eric Dane, remains in the dark about his future on the show.

In a recent interview with ClutchPoints, promoting Prime Video’s One Fast Move, Dane admitted that he hasn’t received any updates concerning the new season of Euphoria. Despite the uncertainty, he expressed confidence in the show’s creator, Sam Levinson, and is eagerly waiting for the call.

"Anything Sam Levinson comes up with is probably gonna be pretty cool," Dane said. "So, I am not only excited to see what he has come up with, but I’ll probably be equally as excited to play it."

However, Dane clarified, “But I haven’t heard anything.”

Addressing the various theories circulating about the new season, including rumors of a conflict between Zendaya and Levinson, Dane emphasized his detachment from such speculations. "Unless Sam Levinson calls me and tells me ‘This is what’s happening,’ I wouldn’t believe anything you read," he explained.

In Euphoria, Dane plays Cal Jacobs, the father of Nate (portrayed by Jacob Elordi), who leads a double life. Given his pivotal role in the series, fans are keen to know if he will return for Season 3, but they will have to wait for official updates.

Currently, Dane is busy promoting his latest project, the racing action movie One Fast Move. He stars alongside Riverdale alum KJ Apa, who plays Wes, an aspiring motorcycle racer. In the film, Wes reconciles with his estranged father, played by Dane, as they navigate past childhood trauma together.

Euphoria, an HBO series created by Sam Levinson, first premiered on June 16, 2019, and concluded its initial season on August 4 of that year. Following a long gap, HBO aired a two-part holiday special between the first two seasons. The first part aired on December 6, 2020, and the second on January 24, 2021.

The second season of Euphoria premiered on January 9, 2022, and wrapped up on February 27, 2022. Although Season 3 has been confirmed, it will still be some time before it makes its debut on HBO.

The show is led by Zendaya, who stars as Rue Bennett, a teenager grappling with drug addiction. Other notable young actors include Maude Apatow, Jacob Elordi, Hunter Schafer, and Sydney Sweeney. In addition to Levinson, the show’s production team includes high-profile names such as Drake, Zendaya, Ron Leshem, and Gary Lennon.

While Levinson has been the mind behind every written episode, he also directed several episodes himself. Directors Augustine Frizzell, Jennifer Morrison, and Pippa Bianco contributed to the first season, while Levinson took on the directing responsibilities for all episodes in the second season.

During the hiatus between seasons, Levinson kept himself occupied with various projects. He executive-produced the miniseries Irma Vep, which premiered on HBO on June 22.

Levinson also ventured into new territory with the controversial series The Idol, a collaboration with Abel Tesfaye (known as The Weeknd) and Reza Fahim. The series, starring Lily-Rose Depp as a pop star and Tesfaye as a cult leader, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May 2023 but had a tumultuous journey on HBO. Despite a star-studded cast that included Suzanna Son, Troye Sivan, Jane Adams, Rachel Sennott, Da’Vine Joy Randolph, Eli Roth, and Hank Azaria, the series received negative feedback upon its HBO premiere on June 4, 2023, and was subsequently canceled after just one season.
