NEW YORK (AP) — Eugene Levy and Dan Levy will create history at next month’s Emmy Awards by becoming the first ever father-son co-hosts.

“We are thrilled to welcome two generations of comedy genius to the Emmy’s stage as hosts,” said Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego in a statement on Friday.

The Levys made a significant impact at the 2020 Emmys, a year when winners appeared remotely due to the pandemic, with their hit series “Schitt’s Creek.” Eugene Levy took home the award for outstanding comedy actor, while Dan Levy received the best supporting comedy actor title. Dan also earned accolades for writing and directing, and both Levys, as executive producers, won the outstanding comedy series trophy.

“For two Canadians who won our Emmys in a literal quarantine tent, the idea of being asked to host this year in an actual theater was incentive enough,” the Levys said in a statement. “We’re thrilled to be able to raise a glass to this extraordinary season of television.”

This will mark the first time the Emmys will have father-son hosts, and the first hosting duo since 2018, when “Saturday Night Live” stars Colin Jost and Michael Che took on the role.

The 76th Emmy Awards will air live in Los Angeles on Sept. 15 on ABC, and will be available for streaming the next day on Hulu.

In addition to co-hosting, Eugene Levy has also been nominated this year for his work in the Apple TV+ series “The Reluctant Traveler With Eugene Levy,” which pairs his distinct, cautious humor with some of the most stunning locations on the planet.
