Ewers’ Accurate Passing Leads Texas to End Michigan’s Undefeated Streak

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers continues to shine against top-10 opponents, demonstrating his impressive skills on a national stage. On Saturday, Ewers had another stellar performance, throwing for 246 yards and three touchdowns, leading the Longhorns to a commanding 31-12 victory over the No. 10 Michigan Wolverines at their home field, The Big House.

According to ESPN Stats & Info, Ewers is now the only quarterback in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) to have thrown three touchdowns without an interception against numerous Associated Press top-10 teams since the beginning of last season. Last year, he also guided Texas to a victory at Alabama.

“There’s something about Quinn in his demeanor. He’s a very calm guy. He’s really collected. He never rides the emotional rollercoaster,” said Texas head coach Steve Sarkisian. “When you’ve got a quarterback that everybody can believe in, that just fuels confidence and belief that, ‘Hey, let’s go do our part, because the guy that’s holding the ball every play, he’s on point.’”

Indeed, Ewers was on point against the defending national champions as the third-ranked Longhorns exhibited impressive offensive prowess against a defense that features several NFL-caliber talents. Ewers managed to guide the Longhorns to convert seven out of their first eight third-down attempts. He nearly completed another conversion, but a 24-yard touchdown pass during the opening drive was negated by a holding penalty.

Following a missed field goal on that initial drive, Texas scored points on their next four possessions, establishing a formidable 24-3 lead by halftime. Ewers expressed, “I just enjoy big moments,” highlighting his ability to thrive under pressure.

This victory marks a significant step for Texas as they aim to return to the College Football Playoff, where they advanced last year. Though they lost in the Sugar Bowl semifinal to Washington, Ewers had an impressive outing, throwing for 318 yards in the narrow 37-31 defeat.

Sarkisian commented on Ewers’ performance against Michigan, saying, “I thought he played really efficiently. He got completions. I didn’t feel like there was a throw that got forced today.”

The 19-point win is Texas’ largest road victory against a top-10 opponent since 1979, when they defeated Missouri 21-0. This win also marked Michigan’s first overall loss since their defeat to TCU in the 2022 College Football Playoff, and it was their first home loss since 2020.

Reflecting on the game, Ewers noted, “When we were at Alabama, we were trying to prove, not only to ourselves, but to everybody what type of team we are. Coming here and getting the job done… feels just about the same.”

Overall, Ewers’ ability to remain composed and perform effectively in high-pressure situations continues to make him a standout player. His contributions were crucial in ensuring Texas’ successful outing against a formidable opponent, setting a positive tone as they pursue their goals this season.
