Expert Claims King Charles Made a ‘Terrible Mistake’ With Harry’s Kids

King Charles ascended to the throne after Queen Elizabeth II passed away in 2022. The royal family had been facing turmoil, especially after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle exited the royal fold in 2020. Despite Queen Elizabeth’s passing, there hasn’t been a significant improvement in Harry and Meghan’s relationship with the other royals.

Upon becoming king, Charles made a pivotal decision regarding Harry and Meghan’s children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet. He opted to bestow royal titles upon them, designating them as prince and princess. This move has sparked considerable conversation among royal experts and observers.

When Archie and Lili were born, Queen Elizabeth II was still the reigning monarch. Post her demise, Charles faced a choice: to grant or withhold royal titles for Harry and Meghan’s children. He chose to give them titles, with Archie becoming a prince and Lili a princess. However, this gesture has been met with criticism from some quarters. Royal author Tom Bower expressed his reservations, stating, “Harry and Meghan have undermined the monarchy, and Charles has made a terrible mistake. He should have cut them off straight away. He should never have allowed their children to be made a prince and princess.”

The belief behind this criticism hinges on the idea that by giving Archie and Lili royal titles, Harry and Meghan will remain inextricably linked to the royal family, irrespective of the ongoing tensions and turmoil. Nonetheless, even in the absence of children, Harry would still retain his status as a prince, and both Harry and Meghan would remain the Duke and Duchess.

The titles granted to Archie and Lili have led to speculation regarding their future roles within the monarchy. As grandchildren of the reigning king, their potential to become working royals isn’t entirely off the table, although it seems highly unlikely. They would need to wait until they are at least 18 years old to step into any royal duties. A slim possibility exists that if they become close to their cousin, Prince George, he might allow them to take on royal duties when he becomes king, particularly if the monarchy is in need of more active members.

However, it seems more probable that Archie and Lili will not take on official roles within the royal family. Instead, they might mirror the roles of their second cousins, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, who maintain close ties to the royal family but are not working royals. Despite this, Archie and Lili, having received their titles, will retain them for life.

While King Charles’ decision to grant these titles aimed to integrate Archie and Lili into the royal fold, it simultaneously ensured that Harry and Meghan’s connection to the monarchy remains firm. The ongoing discourse suggests that the titles, rather than bridging gaps, may serve as a continual reminder of the complex dynamics within the royal family.
