When was the last time you enjoyed a relaxing mocktail at the end of a long day? If you can’t remember, it might be time to schedule a mocktail hour for yourself. People on TikTok are raving about “adrenal mocktails” to lower stress, and experts agree that they can be effective.

Adrenal mocktails are gaining popularity on social media, thanks in part to TikToker @nourishedwithbecca. Becca, a hormone nutritionist, described in a video how these drinks can help support adrenal health. “If you’re exhausted all the time, dragging yourself through the day, and don’t have energy to do what you used to, it’s not a ‘you’ problem; it’s a fuel problem,” she explained. “Your adrenals need support. Adrenal mocktails are my go-to tool to help support my adrenals and replenish the minerals burned through during times of stress.”

Becca’s recipe includes four ounces of orange juice, coconut water, and a pinch of sea salt. She mentioned she makes this mocktail whenever she feels an energy dip during the day.

These mocktails are usually packed with nutrients like vitamin C, potassium, and sodium. The recipe aims to keep stress levels in check, support adrenal gland function, and maintain balanced hydration.

According to registered dietitian Amy Goodson, “An adrenal mocktail is a drink typically made with ingredients like orange juice, coconut water, and sea salt.”

So, how do adrenal glands relate to stress? Adrenal glands, located on top of your kidneys, produce hormones such as cortisol and adrenaline, which help manage your body’s stress response.

Dorsey Standish, a wellness expert and CEO of Mastermind Meditate, explains, “Adrenal mocktail advocates maintain that the drink helps ease stress by providing nutrients to support the adrenal glands. These glands perform critical functions like regulating heart rate, energy level, electrolyte balance, and blood pressure.”

Combining these vitamins and minerals in an adrenal mocktail can help balance cortisol levels and promote a calming effect.

However, it’s important to note that while adrenal mocktails can offer benefits, they may not be suitable for everyone. Standish mentions, “There is no scientific evidence that adrenal cocktails can improve adrenal function, but for most people, they can’t do any harm.” She advises pairing your adrenal mocktail with a meal or snack containing fiber and protein to optimize digestion and avoid a spike in blood sugar from the high-sugar content in orange juice.

For individuals on a weight-loss journey, those with kidney conditions, or those managing diabetes, it’s advisable to check with a healthcare provider before including adrenal mocktails in your routine to ensure the recipe supports your health needs.
