Creative direction and production might seem straightforward on paper, but the real-world application is often far more intricate. A director’s role encompasses maintaining a cohesive visual style for brands, which includes campaigns, film, photography, promotional materials, and overall brand consistency.

The job demands an acute attention to detail and a profound understanding of a brand’s essence. Very few possess this talent, and even fewer have perfected it. Sara Rados is one of those exceptional talents. Over the past eight years, she has directed materials for notable brands like Sephora, Salt and Stone, Ariana Grande, and Target.

Rados began honing her craft at the Ontario College of Art and Design University in Toronto, where she earned her Bachelor of Design degree. During her university years, she received the Art Directors Club award for Best Portfolio, standing out as the most promising talent from the advertising graduating class.

“I wanted to pursue a career in the creative sphere, from traditional advertising to creative directing with brands,” Rados shared. Her pursuit has proven fruitful, as evidenced by her direction of a photoshoot for the beauty brand Salt and Stone at Sephora Canada. The results of this shoot were featured on Sephora’s website and printed as end caps for Sephora stores, showcasing her expertise and deep understanding of brand identity.

Rados’s skills extend beyond traditional creative direction. “As a multi-hyphenate creative director, I am in a unique position to take on additional roles outside the traditional title,” she explained. Her experience spans high-level creative directing, producing, styling, casting, interior designing, prop styling, social media management, client relations, and copywriting. She’s even acted as a hand model for some of her beauty shoots.

Rather than being overwhelmed by these challenges, Rados embraces them to become a more well-rounded creative director. “Throughout my career, I’ve rarely turned down an opportunity to learn a new job or skill, even if at the time it felt like a departure from my goal of being a ‘creative director,’” she said.

Experiencing various production roles is essential, according to Rados. “I believe that experiencing a little bit of every single production role is part of a great creative director’s journey. Being able to truly understand and empathize with everyone’s roles and unique challenges puts me in the position to lead a more seamless production and create a more harmonious creative environment.”

Direction and production involve ensuring every aspect of a project is flawlessly executed. Such precision and confidence come from determination and an unwavering belief in oneself and the team. Sara Rados embodies these qualities and is just at the beginning of her journey.
