Family Confirms Tomcraft’s Passing

German DJ and music producer Tomcraft, whose real name was Thomas Brückner, passed away on Monday, July 15, at the age of 49. His family announced the sad news on social media, although the cause of his death and the circumstances surrounding it have not been disclosed to the public.

In their heartfelt message, the family shared, “With a heavy heart, we need to inform you that yesterday, 15 July 2024, our beloved father and husband has passed away. We will forever carry you in our hearts and love you until we’re reunited again.”

Brückner made a significant impact on the music scene during the 1990s and early 2000s. He gained mainstream fame with his 2003 club hit “Loneliness,” enabling him to carve out a successful career in the music industry. Some of his other notable tracks include “Circle,” “Prosac,” and “Silence.” Tributes have been pouring in from friends, collaborators, and peers who remember these iconic songs. Judge Jules, for instance, praised Brückner as a “lovely guy, who made one of the greatest records ever.”

The lyrics and melody of “Loneliness” were derived from Andrea Martin’s 1999 single “Share the Love,” with Brückner and his studio partner Eniac composing the instrumental. According to a BBC report, Brückner discovered “Share the Love” in a charity shop in Munich, and he re-recorded the vocals with British singer Vivian. Speaking about his creative choice in an interview for the book “1,000 Number One Hits” by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh, Brückner said, “The lyrics say that happiness seems to be loneliness and loneliness killed my world. It doesn’t really make much sense to me either – but I prefer it because of that. I like the idea that it is a bit crazy – it’s just that kind of record.”

Throughout his career, Brückner continued to be an influential figure in the music industry, often supporting and uplifting other artists, including younger talents who looked up to him. His social media is filled with tributes to the broader music community and the art form itself. Following news of his passing, fans and peers are sharing their heartfelt tributes and memories.
