He cherished the chance to heal a “traumatic moment” in his Spider-Man’s life.

“We were shooting for two weeks, Tobey and I, but I think we managed to achieve something that isn’t just a ‘Hi! Bye!’ moment,” Garfield recalled. “My Spider-Man got to save his younger brother’s romantic relationship, potentially. And through doing it for his younger brother, he also healed the most traumatic moment of his own life. Making sure his younger brother didn’t share the same fate, there’s something cosmically beautiful about that.”

“It meant getting a second chance at saving Gwen [Stacy, Garfield’s love interest in The Amazing Spider-Man played by Emma Stone],” the actor reflected. “The spirit that Zendaya brings to MJ is so heartfelt and pure, and Emma brought a similar unique spirit to Gwen.”

Spider-Man: No Way Home united all three generations of live-action Spider-Man actors, providing Andrew Garfield an opportunity to shine as Peter Parker. In the official art book for the movie, Garfield discusses where his character’s story could go next. Fans are hopeful that Garfield will continue in the role, with rumors even suggesting that he might cameo in Spider-Man 4 along with Tobey Maguire. “It’s changed his life,” Garfield mused. “He’s going back knowing that he has brothers. He’s reinspired to follow his calling – the purpose of his life. By catching MJ, he managed to atone for a tragic event he tried to avert in his world.”

“If he hadn’t been in Peter 1’s world, it’s possible MJ might have met the same fate as Gwen. His presence was purposeful in that regard,” Garfield explained. “He’s returning with a mind blown about the cosmos, the universe, string theory, and multiple dimensions. He’s going back incredibly reinvigorated.”
