Fans argue “Emily in Paris” Season 4 features the best outfits yet

Emily in Paris‘ Emily Cooper has a fresh vision for season four, part one, perfectly paired with an updated wardrobe.

Since the release of the first five episodes of the Netflix series on August 15, fans have been buzzing about Lily Collins’ vibrant fashion choices, claiming her outfits have improved compared to earlier seasons.

Throughout the show’s first three seasons, Emily Cooper, portrayed by Collins, was seen flaunting playful designer pieces. These ranged from voluptuous sculptures to recherché couture, capturing an exaggerated American perspective on Parisian chic.

In her role as a luxury marketing executive sent from Chicago to Paris, Emily believes in embracing the bold and daring. She combines patterns with metallics and often wears accessories with little practical use. Her mantra seems to be “anything goes”—something that hasn’t always resonated with the audience.

Many viewers, after watching seasons one through three, where Emily’s outfits leaned toward the kitschy and doll-like, expressed their dissatisfaction.

One outspoken fan took to X, formerly known as Twitter, and made a comparison to Ugly Betty. “Ugly Betty dresses like Emily in Paris. It’s considered ugly on Betty but high fashion on Emily. I wonder why,” they remarked.

Another user on X mentioned, “Okay, the outfits on Emily in Paris HAVE to be trolling us now,” after viewing season three.

Amidst the online critiques, many supporters defended Emily’s eclectic wardrobe, finding it refreshing and “ahead of its time.” Now, it seems a majority of viewers are enchanted by Emily’s style, particularly in season four, part one.

Before the new season premiered, Collins hinted at Emily’s “fresh fashion” for her unforeseen adventures this season. Fans seem to believe she’s never looked better. A few standout looks include a royal blue Barbara Bui pantsuit paired with Paco Rabanne boots, and a butter-yellow ensemble featuring a corduroy Isabel Marant skirt.

One Instagram user commented, “Obsessed with all these looks,” on a photo featuring Emily in the yellow outfit.

Another admirer added, “The outfits this season are (fire).”

A fan on X wrote, “The outfits in Emily in Paris this season are different and possibly the best yet. The fashion choices on the show have evolved and are receiving high praise from fans.”

Someone else agreed, “Something is different about the outfits in ‘Emily in Paris‘ this season. And they just might be the best yet.”

While many viewers now adore Emily’s revamped looks, some fans who preferred her eccentric style expressed disappointment. They felt this season’s fashion didn’t align with the show’s history and current trends.

“I think the fashion didn’t work for me in S1 alone,” one viewer argued. “But with the resurgence of more is more, Emily in Paris this season took a more monotone approach and it’s a shame cause they finally found their audience and they took it a notch down at the wrong time.”

Part two of Emily in Paris season four is set to be released on Netflix on September 12.
