Fans Fume Over ‘House of the Dragon’ Season 2 Finale

For longtime Game of Thrones fans and those who joined the fray with the launch of House of the Dragon , one thing has come to be expected: seasons will end with a bang. Ned Stark’s death, the Red Wedding, the death of Jon Snow all happen in the last two episodes of their seasons. We got massive battles like the Battle of Blackwater, the Battle at the Wall, and the Battle of the Bastards. Not to mention, the finales had plenty of great moments featuring White Walkers or Dany’s dragons.

House of the Dragon continued this grand tradition of massive finales when Aemond’s dragon devoured Rhaenyra’s son at the end of Season 1. Fans have since been eagerly awaiting the game-changing event that would cap off Season 2. However, as fans found out on Sunday night, the biggest battle of Season 2 had already occurred back in Episode 4 during the Battle of Rook’s Rest when Rhaenys fell from the sky. The back half of the season didn’t offer much action, and the finale concluded with a whimper rather than a bang.

While there seems to be a massive battle on the horizon (with everyone building their armies), Season 2 ends with Alicent and Rhaenyra forming a secret truce, one that obviously won’t last. Needless to say, fans were not too pleased about what they view as a fairly dull finale, and took to Twitter to air their grievances.

Here’s a roundup of some of the best reactions from fans regarding the House of the Dragon Season 2 finale:

One fan described the season as a drag, while another compared it to the much-maligned Game of Thrones Season 8. Fans complained about the show’s writers and how the entire season led up to nothing. Barstool Sports echoed these sentiments, calling the finale boring, and several House of the Dragon fan accounts also voiced their dissatisfaction.

Fans compared the finale to a useless work meeting and labeled it as filler. The lengthy mud fighting scene was particularly disliked, and some claimed they wouldn’t be watching Season 3. The additional wait time of probably two years for a new season also did not sit well with viewers.

Many fans called the finale “underwhelming,” with some describing it as a “66-minute trailer for Season 3.” Others saw it as a waste of time altogether and felt that ultimately, they just wanted a lot more from the season’s conclusion.
