Fans Roast Drew Carey on ‘Price Is Right’ After Joke Falls Flat

Drew Carey was a comedian before he stepped into Bob Barker’s shoes as the host of The Price is Right. Known for his successful sitcom and impeccable comic timing, Carey has made his mark as a game show host. However, some fans feel that his age might be catching up with him, particularly when it comes to some of the jokes and references he uses on the show.

Recently, Drew had a moment on the show that left many fans rolling their eyes.

Drew Carey enjoys making quips while interacting with game show contestants, but not all his jokes land. In a recent episode, this became evident, and Drew quickly realized that his humor fell flat for most of the audience.

During an episode featuring a contestant named Ryan playing The Money Game, Ryan needed to identify the numbers that would uncover the halves of a car. He first chose “25,” which Drew struggled to locate, but eventually revealed one half of the car.

With four chances left, Ryan then chose “52.” As Drew walked to the board, he joked, “Car 52, where are you?” The quip was met with near silence from the crowd. Drew, noticing this, smiled and said, “No?” while waiting for any laughter. The panel eventually revealed a dollar sign, not the car half.

Ryan’s next pick was “83,” which successfully uncovered the second half of the car, leading him to victory and a jubilant celebration.

The joke Drew made, “Car 52, where are you?”, is a reference to a TV show from 1961 called Car 54, Where Are You? The show starred Fred Gwynne, who later became famous for his role in The Munsters. However, the lukewarm reaction indicated that many people in the audience weren’t familiar with the classic TV show.

Even though the joke missed its mark, Drew Carey took it in stride. Fans quickly took to social media to comment on the moment:

  • “Drew really aging himself with the car 52 where are you comment that nobody laughed at.”
  • “Yeah, that was rough lol.”

Drew Carey can’t be held accountable for the waning familiarity with older TV shows. Car 54, Where Are You? aired for two seasons, spanning 60 episodes, and followed the adventures of two NYPD officers in Patrol Car 54. Despite its short run, the show earned one Primetime Emmy for directing and was nominated for three other Emmys.

The show has also been aired in syndication on networks like Nick at Nite, Ha!, and Decades, but it seems it just isn’t etched in the collective memory of today’s game show audience.

What do you think about Drew Carey’s performance as the host of The Price is Right? Is he still entertaining to you? Feel free to share your thoughts in the comments below.
