Fans Wonder If Obama Omitted A Massive Hit From Summer Playlist Because of Drake

Barack Obama is enjoying a variety of music this summer, ranging from artists like Charli XCX to Shaboozey. However, fans have noticed the absence of Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us” from his summer 2023 playlist. This song has massively resonated this season, reaching the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 multiple times. Despite its popularity, the former President’s playlist includes other hip-hop artists like GloRilla, Megan Thee Stallion, and Saweetie, leaving Lamar out.

The song has made significant cultural impacts. It inspired a browser game, was part of Serena Williams’ ESPY Awards monologue, and helped connect Kendrick Lamar to younger generations such as Gen Z and Gen Alpha. Even Olympic stars, including Steph Curry and LeBron James, debated the song’s merits during their practice sessions.

It’s not that Obama doesn’t appreciate Kendrick Lamar’s music. He’s been seen hanging out with the rapper on several occasions and has even included Lamar’s tracks on more private playlists. Obama once predicted that Kendrick could outdo Drake in a theoretical rap battle, long before their actual musical rivalry unfolded. The exclusion of “Not Like Us” might simply be an oversight, or it could be a choice to maintain a more wholesome playlist that doesn’t stir up too much controversy.
