Fatman Scoop Dies at 53 After Collapsing at Connecticut Concert

Fatman Scoop has tragically passed away after collapsing during a concert in Connecticut on Friday night, August 30. He was 53 years old.

The New York rapper, known by his real name Isaac Freeman III, was performing at Town Center Park in Hamden, Connecticut. Partway through his set, he appeared to suffer a medical emergency. Fan-captured video on X (formerly known as Twitter) showed the iconic hip-hop hype man and radio personality collapsing mid-performance. Following this, medical personnel quickly performed chest compressions on him behind the DJ booth before transferring him to a local hospital.

Scoop’s death was confirmed the next morning, August 31, in an Instagram post from his family.

“It is with profound sadness and very heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of the legendary and iconic Fatman Scoop,” began the heartfelt message. “Last night, the world lost a radiant soul, a beacon of light on the stage and in life.”

The post continued, “Fatman Scoop was known to the world as the undisputed voice of the club. His music made us dance and embrace life with positivity. His joy was infectious, and the generosity he extended to all will be deeply missed but never forgotten.”

Scoop rose to fame with his 1999 club hit “Be Faithful,” featuring the Crooklyn Clan. He also made a notable appearance on Missy Elliott’s hit “Lose Control,” alongside Ciara. The song reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, and its accompanying video earned a Grammy Award in 2006 for Best Short Form Music Video. The track also garnered a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Song.
