FBI Agents Arrest Former Aide to New York Governor Kathy Hochul

On September 3, a former high-ranking aide to New York Governor Kathy Hochul was arrested, along with her husband, at their Long Island residence. The details surrounding the charges remain unspecified, according to reports.

Linda Sun, 40, who previously served as deputy chief of staff to both Hochul and former Governor Andrew Cuomo, was taken into custody by FBI agents along with her husband, Chris Hu, 41. The arrests occurred at their home located on a secluded cul-de-sac on Long Island’s North Shore.

Federal prosecutors from New York’s Eastern District have verified the arrests. Sources close to the situation indicate that prosecutors in Brooklyn plan to request that a judge unseal the indictment against Sun and Hu, with both individuals expected to appear in court later today.

Authorities have stated that Sun’s arrest is unrelated to her previous role in the governor’s office in Albany. This clarification comes amidst growing public interest in the circumstances surrounding her detention.

In July, FBI agents conducted an early morning raid on the couple’s Manhasset residence, valued at approximately $3.5 million. However, the specific reason for the raid and any alleged criminal activity at that time was not immediately clear.

Reports reveal that Chris Hu is involved in several businesses. He owns Leivine Wine & Spirits, a liquor store located in Flushing, Queens, and heads Medical Supplies USA LLC, a company he established during the early phases of the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, he is affiliated with Golden Capital Group LLC and LCA Holdings LLC.

Linda Sun had been directly involved in Hochul’s administration for about 15 months following Cuomo’s resignation in 2021, which was prompted by allegations of sexual misconduct. Her tenure in state government spans over 14 years, during which she held various positions under prior governors. She was dismissed last year from the New York Department of Labor, where she served as deputy commissioner for strategic business development, after evidence of misconduct was discovered.

According to Avi Small, Hochul’s press secretary, Sun had been employed by the executive chamber for more than a decade. Following the allegations, the governor’s office took action.

“We terminated her employment in March 2023 after discovering evidence of misconduct. We immediately reported her actions to law enforcement and have been cooperating with them throughout this investigation,” Small noted in a statement.

The unfolding legal matters surrounding Linda Sun and Chris Hu have drawn considerable attention. As the situation develops, the public eagerly awaits further details, especially regarding the nature of the charges and the implications for those involved.
