‘Film People Freak Me Out So Much’

Actors want to sing, singers want to act, and directors sometimes want to act too. However, Chappell Roan, the chart-topping, drag-loving pop star, is different. During an Interview magazine chat with SNL star Bowen Yang, Roan was candid when asked if she might consider acting as a break from the hectic world of pop stardom.

“I say this with peace, love, and blessings,” the 26-year-old star said to Yang. “Actors are f–king crazy.” Yang agreed, although Roan clarified she didn’t mean him specifically. “You can, I’m crazy,” Yang assured her.

“I don’t know you, but I know you’re not the vibe I’m talking about,” Roan explained. She added that the very thought of film people freaks her out. Offer after offer for lead roles in various projects has come her way in the past weeks, but she remains a firm “no” on taking her talents to the big screen.

On Monday (August 19), the “Red Wine Supernova” star took to TikTok to discuss the “harassment” she’s been experiencing from fans recently. She lamented the lack of boundaries, stating, “I don’t care that this crazy type of behavior comes along with the job, the career field I’ve chosen. That doesn’t make it OK. That doesn’t make it normal.”

She emphasized that while she acknowledges this comes with being a celebrity, it doesn’t mean she wants it or likes it. “I don’t want whatever the f— you think you’re supposed to be entitled to whenever you see a celebrity,” she said.

Despite her clear stance on not pursuing acting, Roan shared that she’s no stranger to the idea. “I originally started doing music because I wanted to get my foot in the door for acting, and then I moved to Los Angeles and I was like, ‘F–k that,'” she said. Although she has had acting training, she finds the industry “most stressful thing in the world.”

Roan described the acting industry as legitimately scary and beyond her control. In contrast, she enjoys the flexibility of releasing music whenever she wants. “I don’t have to wait for a casting director to be like, ‘It would be great if we cast you, and then we’ll decide your schedule for the next three months,'” she added.

However, she did leave a slight possibility open for the right project. If something “really specific and really silly” came along, she might consider a cameo. Despite this, she humorously added, “I would rather get arrested.” Nonetheless, her schedule for the next year is already completely booked.
