Filmmaker Fede Alvarez Teases Vision for ‘Alien vs. Predator’ Reboot

Alien: Romulus filmmaker Fede Alvarez is open to doing a revamped Alien vs. Predator movie, but he’ll need a little help.

“Maybe it’s something I have to co-direct with my buddy Dan,” Alvarez mentioned. Dan Tratchenberg, who helmed the widely watched Predator 2022 prequel Prey for Hulu, is already working on another standalone pic in the franchise.

“Maybe we should do like Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez did with Dusk Till Dawn. I’ll direct one half, and he’ll direct the other half,” Alvarez suggested.

20th Century Fox had released two Alien Vs. Predator movies; one in 2004 which grossed $177.4M worldwide, and the second, Aliens vs. Predators: Requiem, in 2007, earning $130.2M worldwide. The first hybrid between the two sci-fi monsters was widely profitable for the studio, a fact not widely known.

Before embarking on Alien vs. Predator, Alvarez indicated at the premiere earlier this week, “It depends on how well [Romulus] does, if people want to see that.”

With a $40M opening, Alvarez’s latest Alien movie is expected to perform extremely well, achieving the second biggest opening in the franchise behind Ridley Scott’s 2012 Prometheus which opened at $51M.

Alien: Romulus is also set to become Alvarez’s highest domestic opening at the box office, and the best stateside debut for star Cailee Spaeny.

Dusk Till Dawn was released in 1996 and was co-written by Rodriguez and Tarantino. The film, starring George Clooney, Salma Hayek, Harvey Keitel, Juliette Lewis, and Tarantino, depicted a tale about two criminals and their hostages who, unknowingly, seek temporary refuge in a truck stop populated by vampires with chaotic results. The movie grossed $25.8M.
