Channel 5 has just given fans their first glimpse of the much-anticipated fifth series of All Creatures Great and Small, and the excitement is palpable.
The beloved period drama, inspired by James Herriot’s cherished collection of short stories, is set to return this autumn. It will continue weaving its charming tales set in Skeldale House.
In one of the newly released images, the show’s leading man, James Herriot, is seen in a serious pose beside an aircraft, indicating that he remains with the RAF in the upcoming series.
Another delightful photo captures a joyous moment as James, his wife Helen (played by Rachel Shenton), and their friends and family gather outside the village church for baby Herriot’s christening.
A third image features Siegfried (Samuel West) warmly reuniting with his younger brother, Tristan (Callum Woodhouse), who makes a return to Darrowby in the new episodes.
Though Channel 5 hasn’t released an official synopsis, it’s clear that the new episodes will continue bringing James Herriot’s stories to life, as viewers return to Darrowby to reconnect with the beloved Skeldale Family and the vibrant community of farmers, animals, and townspeople dwelling in the Yorkshire Dales during the 1940s.
From the initial images, it’s evident that fans can expect to see Tristan back in Darrowby. The mischievous younger brother of Siegfried, who departed Yorkshire at the end of series three to join the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, is set for an unexpected return in the upcoming series.
Before last year’s Christmas special, the cast shared their feelings about missing Callum on set during an interview with HELLO! and other media outlets. Nicholas Ralph expressed, "As much as the characters miss Tristan, around the set we miss Callum."
Samuel West humorously added, "It’s slightly quieter, isn’t it?" while Rachel Shenton joked, "I get more cuddles from the animals because usually Cal is hogging that, so every cloud," before adding more earnestly, "No, I missed him."
Nicholas Ralph, Rachel Shenton, and Samuel West are all set to reprise their roles in the forthcoming season, joined by Anna Madeley as Mrs. Hall, James Anthony-Rose as student vet Richard Carmody, and Patricia Hodge as the quirky widow, Mrs. Pumphrey.
Filming for the upcoming episodes wrapped up in July, but an official release date has yet to be announced. However, based on the show’s previous schedules, new episodes are likely to premiere in September or October.
