First Look at Dexter Prequel Reveals One of His Early Victims

Dexter: Original Sin, the upcoming prequel series on Paramount+ with Showtime, is set to dive into the formative years of the iconic character, Dexter Morgan. Set in the ’90s, this crime drama explores Dexter’s early days as he begins a forensics internship at the Miami Metro Police Department. It’s during this period that Dexter starts honing his scientific skills to solve cases and simultaneously embarks on a much darker path under the tutelage of his father, Harry Morgan.

The new series shifts its focus to Dexter learning the deadly Code devised by his father, a set of rules meant to channel his compulsion to kill into a twisted form of justice. Dexter targets those who have evaded the justice system, deeming them unfit to be part of society. Trained by Harry, Dexter learns to eliminate these individuals while avoiding detection.

The first look at the series introduces Patrick Gibson as young Dexter Morgan, Christian Slater as Harry Morgan, and Molly Brown as Dexter’s sister, Deb. Additionally, viewers get a glimpse of one of Dexter’s early victims, Tony Ferrer, portrayed by Roberto Sanchez. The released image, which is from an episode titled “Miami Vice,” places Ferrer on Dexter’s table, hinting at the chilling dynamics to come.

While the specific reason why Ferrer becomes a target is unclear, he is a recurring character throughout the show’s first ten-episode season. Given that Tony appears in the first three episodes, it’s safe to infer that his misdeeds are revealed early on in the narrative.

According to Screen Rant, Tony Ferrer isn’t Dexter’s first victim, staying true to the original series’ timeline. Dexter’s killing spree, which lasts for thirty years, was triggered by the murder of Nurse Mary, the “Angel of Death” who took lives under the guise of relieving her patients’ suffering. Mary was Dexter’s initial kill, and this pivotal moment set the stage for his father’s approval of his murderous tendencies, so long as they were directed by the established Code.

Mary’s death in 1991 could potentially be depicted in the prequel series. The first episode, “Original Sin,” may revisit this essential part of Dexter’s backstory.

Additional images from the series offer more insights into the characters and the storyline. Patrick Gibson’s portrayal of Dexter radiates the complexities of his dual existence, balancing forensic duty with his clandestine murderous activities. Christian Slater’s Harry Morgan looks poised to be a guiding but morally ambiguous figure, shaping Dexter’s criminal ethos. Molly Brown steps into the role of Deb Morgan, setting the groundwork for her future relationship with her brother.

These first glimpses into Dexter: Original Sin tease an intricate balance of crime solving and serial killing, all wrapped in the moral ambiguities that made the original series a hit. The prequel is highly anticipated by fans eager to delve into Dexter’s past and understand the evolution of his character.
