First Look: Disney’s Live-Action Stitch Movie Premieres Summer 2025

At D23, Disney revealed the mischievous alien for its live-action remake of the animated hit *Lilo & Stitch*. The CGI-generated Stitch literally burst through the screen to announce that the movie will premiere in summer 2025.

No exact date was announced; however, the studio currently has two summer dates next year on hold: May 23 and August 8.

Besides the Stitch first look, no footage of the human characters in *Lilo & Stitch* was shown. Newcomer Maia Kealoha is set to play Lilo in the live-action version of the Hawaii-set 2002 animated classic. Initially developed for Disney+, the film has now shifted to a theatrical release.

Dean Fleischer Camp, known for *Marcel the Shell with Shoes On*, directs the film. The cast also includes Zach Galifianakis and Billy Magnussen. The story follows the relationship between a lonely girl named Lilo and Stitch, an alien engineered to be a force of destruction.

Chris Kekaniokalani Bright wrote the new screenplay based on a previous draft by Mike Van Waes. Dan Lin and Jonathan Eirich will produce for Rideback, with Ryan Halprin serving as executive producer for the company.
