Flau’Jae Flaunts Her Success in “Came Out A Beast” Video Featuring Lil Wayne

Flau’Jae Johnson is a multifaceted star who excels in everything she sets her mind to. From dominating the basketball court to shining on stage as a rapper, Flau’Jae continues to push boundaries. In her latest music video “Came Out A Beast,” featuring Lil Wayne, she celebrates her various triumphs.

Flau’Jae credits her golden buzzer moment on America’s Got Talent as a pivotal event that boosted her confidence. The collaboration with Lil Wayne, an iconic figure in New Orleans rap, further validated her ambitions beyond her reality show achievements.

“God first,” says the 20-year-old during an afternoon Zoom chat. “I’m talented, but I work hard. I’ve been waking up at 5:00 AM since high school, and so my work ethic has always been there. I like to call myself an executioner because I plan, I execute, and I make it happen.”

Her determination is evident in the Terrius Mykel-directed video, featuring her senior New Orleans collaborator, her basketball coach Kim Mulkey, and her Louisiana State University (LSU) teammates. Cameos include LSU alumni such as Shaquille O’Neal, Joe Burrow, and Sha’Carri Richardson.

“Lil Wayne showed major love,” says Flau’Jae. “He genuinely enjoyed the music; he even knew all the words to my verse while we were shooting the video. I got the biggest stamp of approval.”

The video also prominently features the LSU Tigers’ 2023 NCAA Women’s Basketball Championship trophy, a key element in the creation of “Came Out A Beast.” LSU’s historic win played a significant role in the song’s conception.

“After we won the championship, Lil Wayne was on ESPN and Sue Bird asked him, ‘When you going to do something with Flau’Jae?’ He said, ‘We’re going to make that happen.’ So I texted him the song, and it took about three months for him to send it back,” she recalls.

She waited patiently for the final product. “When I went on Sway In The Morning and did the six-foot seven-foot freestyle wearing a Lil Wayne shirt, I knew that performance would go viral. He saw it, and right after that, he sent the verse back. It felt like all my wildest dreams had just come true.”

“Came Out A Beast” is a track from Flau’Jae’s latest project, Best Of Both Worlds, released in June 2024. The mixtape features collaborations with NLE Choppa, 2Rare, and Lil Wayne across nine tracks. Flau’Jae is considering releasing a deluxe version with additional music videos.

“I try to be as authentic and vulnerable as I can because people relate to that,” says the Georgia native. “I’ve been receiving lots of messages about my music from fans, and it always makes me smile.”

She adds, “We used to listen to music and feel something. That’s what I want to bring back to Hip-Hop.”

When she’s not writing raps or playing Fortnite with her brothers, the collegiate athlete is preparing for a busy fall. Flau’Jae is set to start another year at LSU, where she’ll return to the court for the season opener on November 4, 2024, against Eastern Kentucky.

“Basketball season is coming up, and I have to lock in. I’m getting ready for the season and getting mentally prepared. This summer was all about music and promoting my work. Now, I’m ready to focus on basketball. I’m already a junior, and time is flying by, so I want to soak it all in,” she concludes.
